The latest viral food trend is fulfilling all of our crispy rice desires, and we’re loving just how easy it is to make. Sushi waffles need to be on your menu!

We’ve had a crack at the viral salmon rice bowls (still on high rotation!) and we’re head over heels for sushi bake and now we’re about to start a love affair with sushi waffles!

Yet another TikTok food trend, sushi waffles combine many of the flavours and ingredients of salmon rice bowls, with a crispy, sushi rice waffle. And they are so darn easy to make!

Australian TikToker Victoria Minell shared a video of her sushi waffles, which has had almost 14 million views – because they’re just THAT GOOD!

Making the sushi waffle is super easy – just spray a waffle iron with a little oil, and load in your pre-cooked sushi rice.

Let it cook and you have a crispy rice waffle ready to be loaded with your favourite sushi ingredients.

Victoria loads her sushi waffle up with salmon, avocado, cucumber, kecap manis sweet soy sauce, Kewpie mayo, sriracha and a finishing squeeze of lime. YUM!

She’s also shared another recipe, with step by step instructions:

We love this easy lunch or dinner idea, and we’re thinking if you don’t have a waffle maker, this could also work in a jaffle maker or a sandwich press.

Is this something you’ll be making? Let us know in the comments below.

  • No waffle maker here but this kind of makes me wish I had one just to impress my daughters with this recipie as I know they would love it. I would happily have one myself but not fish for me. Avo and cucumber sound perfect for me perhaps with some chicken
