I think this is great, I wish this happened at my kids school as some of the phrases and things they’re saying, which they’re obviously picking up at school leaves me just shaking my head!

To me this sounds like a caring teaching articulating the boundaries with which she expects her student to abide. Good on her. All boundaries I know will be pushed, but at least her students know what to expect.

She sounds like a teacher who cares about her students. If they want to use these words when they are at home or hanging out with mates but they are sent to school to learn,

I think this is great. I don’t necessarily agree with all the phrases….however I’m not in the classroom hearing it.

OK I was going to school in the 60’s – start of 70’s and at high school Period was used to name your subject for a particular time. . eg period 1 Maths period 2 English period 3 and 4 home science . There never was a problem using this word to refer to lessons even though it is a word to describe a women’s menstrual cycle as well. Seriously am I behind the times or what? What in heavens name is wrong with PERIOD. ?? ????

I don’t have a problem with this, it’s teaching students how to behave in a professional setting I.e when they leave and find jobs. Some things on the list are also offensive to some people so shouldn’t be used anyway. It’s not taking away freedom of speech- the students can say any of those things- they just need to be prepared to write an essay.

It would do my head in hearing rizz more than once a day, so I can understand why the teacher finds this, and many others, annoying.

I don’t blame this teacher for banning these words. I haven’t even heard most of them before. I think it’s just being more respectful!! Why do they need these euphemisms? Beyond me but good on her!

This seems a little over the top.

Well, when the teachers would use these words, would we be happy ? It’s not a bad thing to teach our kids to used respectful language in a respectful tone

  I agree; there is a time and a place for relaxed language and a time and a classroom for learning and respect.

Thankful to have never heard these words come out of young mouths.

I’ve only heard one of these phrases. I think as an educator she should be setting a better example and speaking properly. Not sure there is a need for a list just speak normally.

I’ve never heard of half of these sayings!

I think this might be fair enough in written work, but not everyday speech.

That’s crazy, I’d laugh at that list and hand it back. Not everyone speaks like that and I think dealing with it face to face with the student might be a better option than giving a list. It just makes students want to use it just for shits and giggles.

This American list is just that American and send it back there it is not worthy of mention here . If you want a list for Australia well do that not some garbage from and for another country
