Hello!

I used to flop into bed of a night time and think to myself “I am so exhausted as I have not stopped all day long, yet I feel like I did not achieve anything!”

I would run around all day long (on some days I would even run to the letterbox which is only 20 metres away – because I was so stretched for time), yet even on these days I would still not feel like I had not accomplished what I “needed” to do!

Does this sound familiar?

As Mother’s, I believe we are all very similar and face the same sorts of challenges in our lives. What would you say if I told you “If you follow these 5 hints below you will create 20% more time and 80% less stress in your life”.. Are you up for the challenge?

Here are the 5 essential tips every Mother should know:

1. Time Management

This is the first step to discovering more time in your life. Time is a precious commodity and needs to be managed effectively for us to get the most out of our day! Here we need to look at time in a factual way, and understand what we actually do with our days. For me, I would waste time on social media (up to 90 minutes a day!), yet I had no time to walk calmly to the letterbox to get my mail! Think about how you can manage your time more effectively?

2. Prioritise Your Health and Emotional Well-being

The most important thing you can do for your children is look after their Mother! Yes, I am talking about you! I believe that we as Mothers have the ability to set the mood in our home. If we are feeling cranky and anxious about something going on, then often you will find that your children will react the same way. On the flip side, if we are feeling excited and happy about something, then our children will respond with the same enthusiasm. It all starts with you! How can you improve your own quality health and emotional well-being?

3. Treat Yourself as a “Best Friend”

We are our own harshest critics! We are more critical on ourselves than we are on anyone around us. And why, you may ask. I believe it is because we compare the internal thoughts in our minds with another person’s external appearance (almost like comparing a back stage rehearsal with an opening night performance – there is no comparison). It is important to treat ourselves with more compassion and love. How can you incorporate more love, compassion and acceptance for you?

4. An Attitude for Gratitude

It is so important that we focus on what we have and be grateful for everything that we do have in our lives. We need to let go of the “if onlys” and focus on what we have right now, in the present moment. Acknowledge all the things in your life (the good and bad) and be grateful for either the learning the bad situation is giving you or the pleasure the good situation is giving you. Coming from a place of gratitude will have a positive effect on your life and your current state of mind!

5. Celebrate All That You Are

As a fellow busy Mum, it is so important that we take time out to celebrate and rejoice all that we are and what we achieve. Often we get so caught up in the daily grind that we lose sight of what we have achieved and only focus on what we could’ve or should’ve of done. We are amazing women who are growing amazing children and we need to schedule in some time for ourselves to celebrate ourselves (remembering once you are able to discover hidden time in your days, like I did which means that I now have an extra 90 minutes every day!) How are you going to celebrate what you today?

The biggest and most important thing to remember is that we are the most influential role model in our children’s life and that our children learn through our example of how we look after ourselves.

I know I want my children to grow up loving, respecting and valuing themselves in everything that they do. The best way I can give this to my children is by using words and actions to build them up and also treat myself the way I want them to treat themselves!

  • I find making a to do list before going to bed makes me sleep better. Getting things written down stops them running around my head all night.

    • That is a fabulous idea! I do the same. I write down the top 6 things each night in order of priority then in the morning i can get stuck straight into them without delay!

    • This was my problem too – so i can totally emphasise with you! I found setting up boundaries around this makes a huge difference. Allow yourself some time for social media – just at set times throughout the day and set your clock timer so you know when to turn it off.
