Hello!

Remember payphones? They’re still kicking around and if you’ve got one near you, the kids can get in touch with the jolly man in red right now, without needing to scrounge up coins.

In the spirit of connecting during Christmas, Telstra wants to make sure Aussie kids get the chance to speak to Santa. So, kids can call Santa free from Telstra payphones, and let him know everything they have on their wishlist. All kids need to do is dial #HO HO HO (#46 46 46) from any Telstra payphone from now up until Christmas Eve. And it won’t cost a cent.

And this year, there’s a gorgeous little twist! Mini, kid-sized payphones will be set up in select Telstra stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane until Christmas Eve!

It’s a chance to spread a little extra Christmas cheer, and with more than 14,000 payphones still scattered across Australia, kids should be able to find one nearby.

  • This is the best! My son called santa the other day and had a great conversation with him. I think it is so clever how they do this and it is so lovely of them to offer this to kids as it makes Christmas magical for them & that is important

  • I do like this time of the year for community initiatives and activities that are all about giving back to the community. This is such a sweet initiative for children and for families. Writing a letter and also possibly contacting Santa via phone is such a joy for children and brings a little magic into lives.

  • It’s a lovely idea and generous thought to provide free calls by Telstra.
In fact they are not only free during this time but the whole year through
calls to local, national, and mobile numbers are free on Telstra’s 15,000 public payphones across Australia as of August 2021, Telstra made all payphone calls free

    • Telstra made payphones free to help people in need, especially during times of crisis:
      To connect with loved ones
To contact helplines and support services
      To report to Centrelink
To tell family and friends they’re safe after a natural disaster
Payphones are located on street corners, in truck stops, airports, and small towns
      Overseas calls are not free

      • Thank you for providing important information about the additional reasons and services provided by Telstra and their telephone booths. It really is so important that everyone can stay connected and can reach out for help when needed. We really do as a community need more of these types of initiatives.

  • That is just too cute and so fun! I love when big corporations get in with the Christmas spirit. They make a lot of money and it’s great to see them bringing a little joy to people at this time of year without a price tag attached. Good on you Telstra!

  • This is so much fun, we did it one day walking through the city last year. My then 4 year old was so excited about it and wanted to stop at all phones even the ones we were driving past. He is already asking to go to the phones to call Santa .

  • This is a super cute idea and the mini phone boxes are very cool. Unfortunately not in my state but to be honest I prefer the letters anyway because I know exactly what the kids are asking for and what the response to these letter are so there’s no broken hearts Christmas morning .

  • I absolutely love this idea, it’s creative and so cool. Kids will love being able to talk to Santa, I am jealous that I don’t have this as a kid. Although you dint see many pay phones around these days, if you do come across one it would be awesome to call and experience this.

  • This is a great idea – but aren’t all payphones free now? Surely this would be a good time to promote that to kids too.

  • Oh the small phone booth is adorable!! Outside of the facility my toddler has swimming lessons is a large booth with stickers saying “call Santa here”. I thought it was such a beautiful location to have it set up, so many kids are passing through every day. I really love these community services.
