Hello!

Do you need more time in a day?  I do, I never seem to get to the end of my list!

There is always a lot to do but I don’t let the list get in the way of my what is important or get me down because I know I’m trying and I’m getting as much into the day as I possibly can.

Here are my top 5 ways to get more time into your day:

  1. Plan and schedule.  It can be hard to work around kids but if you have a plan and a bit of a schedule you’ll be amazed what you can actually get done.  Planning will make it easier at the time to know exactly what has to be done and not waste time pondering it all.

  2. Do the quick stuff quickly.  Don’t think about that washing on the line that needs to come it just go grab it.  A scoot around the living room takes no time at all you don’t have to think about that just do it.

  3. See an opportunity.  Kids napping? Time to get on to that list. Are they happy watching TV for a few minutes? Great go unload the dishwasher in peace. Some days there may not be a lot or anytime, but when there is use it.

  4. Delegate. Yes. Get the kids to help you. Show the kids how to make beds, straighten the cushions on the lounge, unload the dishwasher or even fold some clothes as you take them off the line. OK the beds in our house are rarely even presentable but they’ll get there. Have them helping will eventually give you more time.

  5. Be realistic.  If you know you are not going to be able to scrub all the walls in the house in two hours then why put that pressure on yourself?  Do a section a day or aim for three walls and if you get them all done great if you don’t then just add them to another day.  Make the goals achievable.

Don’t forget to praise yourself when you do get through some of those things. Being a mum can mean days of high achievement and days where the fact you got dressed was an achievement. That’s just the way it is with kids and life so be kind to yourself and pat yourself on the back for anything you did get done today.

  • More time in the day would be a blessing. Mums are so time poor, so busy, it’s go go go

  • I think just getting off the couch and turning off all the electronics gives me more time in the day!

  • I need to do all of these

  • How old are the bubs before they can help around the house? So far my 1 year old pulls all the clothing out of the cupboard and generally creates a mess rather than cleaning anything.

  • Someone tried to tell me that you can’t multitask…huh don’t know how they get things done in a day if I don’t do a few things at the same time i’d get nothing done..

  • Need to be realistic! I need to remind myself that when I have a little bubba who only catnaps during the day and likes to be held which makes it hard for me to get things done

  • I find routine helps. Not that I have to stick to a regimented plan but it means I don have to think as much about certain things and they are done quickly without much thought. Kids also know what is expected.

  • Most mums never stop but its good to know how to streamline a few things, its also important to sit down and play with the kids or take five for yourself too!

  • Accept help when it’s offered as well!

  • Thanks for this. In this day and age, it seems everyone is time poor. What my partner and I do is we have a whiteboard in a common area (the kitchen) and our schedules are written up on there as well as a calendar for special events. It has really helped us stay on top of things – especially because he is rather forgetful … haha

  • A list of things to do helps me,also prioritise major ones. do one thing at a time.like put on washing while making breakfast, will be ready after breakfast is over and dishes done. etc

  • Thanks for sharing. I find get the beds and dishes done early is best and maybe put a load of washing on while this is happening and your off to a good start. I try to do what’s needed during the week ie. floors, ironing etc. and keep the weekends free for children, sport and seeing friends etc.

  • Ahh multitasking , you make it sound so easy. I find when the kids help me with housework it takes 10 times longer because they break stuff or mix my dirty and clean laundry up. I give them a pat on the back for trying… but in the end im like… go watch cartoons and let me do this.
