The most popular baby names in NSW for 2022 have just been released, and while the boy’s top 10 hasn’t had too much movement, there’s a new queen for the girls!

Each year the New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages releases a list of the top 100 most popular boys’ names and top 100 most popular girls’ names in the state for the previous year. And while the full list hasn’t yet been revealed for 2022, the top 10 for both boys and girls has been released.

Most Popular Baby Names 2022

Once again classic names have featured heavily for both boys and girls, with Oliver the most popular boy’s name in NSW for the eighth consecutive year. However, Olivia was knocked off top spot for the girls with Charlotte the most popular name. Charlotte has never been far from the top spot ever since Prince William and Kate welcomed Princess Charlotte in 2015.

Noah was once again the second most popular boys name, followed by Jack and William. Charlie made an appearance in the boy’s top 10, as did Luca.

Amelia remained the second most popular girls’ name, with Sienna entering the top 10.

  • Most of these names seem to have been around for the past few years. No real surprises here at all. Thank heavens Lillibet didn’t make the list this year!

  • Some lovely names here but I don’t follow trends when it comes to naming my children. Mind you, I do prefer old fashioned names

  • Surprised my bubs name made the list ! Some really lovely names.

  • Interesting but not surprising. It’s funny how names go in and out of popularity

  • So in the years to come if the children had the chance to rename the parents what would they do to you. One has to wonder what they would do. I feel safe do you ?

  • Thinking of my future kids… I know which names to avoid now.

  • Well, 3 out of my 4 kids names are on the list. Mia, Theo (not Theodore though) and Noah. Personally I don’t care what’s popular or not. I name my kids what I like.

  • Nope, my kids aren’t on the list nor are my grandkids. That’s great, means their names a more unique, not popularity contest winners

    • Exactly, I like unique names too

  • Some lovely names there. We name our first son after his father and my favorite uncle who passed away just before i had him. When i brought his brother home from the hospital I said “come and see you new baby brother, he’s called Daniel”. No he’s not he’s called Christopher James! So that’s what we called him lol

  • Some lovely names. My kids names aren’t on the list.
I desperately wanted to call our daughter Matilda but hubby was dead-set against it.

  • I actually like all these names and even considered using a couple of them for our babies but we decided to go with less popular names for our kids..

  • I’ve a Sienna and a Khloe with a K

    • But I didn’t name them myself, we adopted them in our family

  • Both of my kids names are on this list! Thankfully both of them are in a huge daycare and neither of them have kids with the same name in their class which is interesting!
