Identical twin sisters who share an incredible bond have given birth to baby boys on the same day.
Jill Justiniani and Erin Cheplak welcomed their sons into the world just hours apart, at the same hospital. Incredibly, the boys, Oliver and Silas, also had the exact same measurements at birth – 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and measuring 51cm.
“The twinning continues,” Erin told Good Morning America.
The 30-year-old new mum from California married her husband, who also happens to be a twin, during the height of Covid pandemic in a small ceremony. The couple then had a bigger celebration in August 2021 – and it ended up being a special day for Erin’s sister as well.
On the morning of the wedding celebration, Jill called Erin to let her know she was expecting her first baby. “I screamed and woke up my husband,” Erin said. “It was such an exciting time.”
But that was just the beginning of the family’s happy news – with Erin herself finding out she was pregnant just a week later while on her honeymoon.
“I took the pregnancy test and saw the two lines and it was very faint. I was second-guessing, am I seeing what I’m seeing, and I FaceTimed Jill from the Maldives and she was like, ‘Yes, that’s it. That’s it.’”
The twins then got to experience all of the joys of pregnancy together over the next nine months, and while there were jokes that the babies could be born on the same day, it seemed unlikely. Jill was booked in for a c-section, while Erin was due to be induced on her due date, ten days later.
But the universe had other plans.
On the morning that her sister was due to have her c-section, Erin also ended up in labour – at the same hospital in the same delivery unit as Jill.
“I called my husband and was like, ‘I’m not joking. I think my water just broke. I called labour and delivery … and then my next phone call was to Jill and I said, ‘Okay, this isn’t a joke. I’m pretty sure my water just broke.'”
As Erins labour continued, Jill was waiting for her c-section, which ended up being pushed back to later in the day.
“Part of me was thinking, ‘What are the odds of this? I can’t believe this is happening,’ but there was also a sense of calm about it because it was like of course this is happening,” Jill said. “We’ve just been so close and so inseparable, it made complete sense in a very odd way.”
Jill’s baby boy Oliver was born at 6.39pm, while Erin’s son Silas was born at 11.31pm – just in time to share a birthday with his cousin!
The sisters, who live close to each other, are now enjoying raising their special little boys together.
