A Victorian mum has welcomed a bouncing baby boy weighing in at almost six kilograms, or more than 12 pounds.

Ana Puleiku and her husband Tokaukamea Puleiku proudly introduced their 5.7kg, 12 pound nine ounce son Tokaukamea Jnr Puleiku to the world via Facebook. The adorable newest addition to the family was born at Mildura Base Public Hospital, via c-section, weighing as much as some three-month-old babies.

“He came out almost crawling. I think I stopped breathing,” Ana told 7 News. The mum of five said she ‘knew something was up’ at the midway point of her pregnancy, when she felt as though she was already full term. She was eventually diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and booked in for a c-section two weeks before her due date.

Tokaukamea Jnr is the biggest baby to be born at Mildura Public Hospital this year. “He’s as big as some three-month-old babies. In the cot they look funny because they’re so big, but they’re beautiful,” Sandra Doyle from Mildura Hospital said.

And it seems this year is one for bumper-sized bubs! Earlier this year 31-year-old mum Cherral Mitchell gave birth to the UK’s third-biggest baby, a boy named Alpha who tipped the scales at 14 pounds, or 6.7kgs.

  • Oh my goodness what a cutie!! You would feel you’ve missed that newborn stage in a way since he is bigger. But seriously I love chunky babies!

  • No 0000’s for this Bub! I had average size babies and I felt uncomfortable enough throughout the later part of my pregnancies. Amazing Mum!
