Fire authorities have issued a warning after concerns a button battery in a book may have ignited a fire in a minivan.

Firefighters in North Carolina shared frightening images of a child’s car seat, which was destroyed by fire just after the child got out of the car.

They also shared an image of a book that makes sounds, claiming it may have been responsible for the blaze.

“Once the fire was out The Fire Marshals Office was called,” George Hildebran Fire & Rescue Department commented. “It was determined that a ‘Button Battery’ inside a children’s book left inside the car underneath the seat caused the fire.”

According to the Queensland Government, button batteries aren’t just a potentially fatal hazard if swallowed by children, but they also have a ‘low, but real risk’ of igniting if they are damaged, not fully discharged or if they short-circuit.
