A Tasmanian woman has issued a warning to parents to be aware of this danger lurking within Kmart candy canes.

Taking to Facebook to share her concerns Amber wrote:

WARNING!
“Today I brought a packet of 100 mini candy canes for $5.00 at Kmart Newtown (Tasmania) and have just opened the first one and this is what was inside of it. (the image attached showed a piece of wire running through the middle of the candy cane)

“I am unsure of what it is but it looks and feels to me like fishing line. So please be careful as I know that a lot of children eat these and wouldn’t know any different.”

Mouths of Mums contacted Amber and she informed us that two days later she is still waiting for someone from Kmart to contact her.

“I have been told that a Kmart official will be in contact with me, but still nothing which is sad, you would think that something like this would be very important to them!”

Amber added, “Please share where ever you feel the need to as I feel it needs to be seen all over Australia!

“It’s a cruel act ( if it was purposely done ) but by the looks of the way it is in there I’m sad to say it would have more likely been on purpose. I’m very glad that I was the one to open it rather than a small child who wouldn’t probably know any different.”

Amber’s post on Facebook has been shared over 3400 times.

  • Goodness! I hope it gets sorted and there is some action. Worrying to find any foreign objects in food.

  • I hope this isn’t another food tampering thing

    • Not nice at Christmas time at all! 🙁 Lets hope it is just a manufacturing/production error.

  • If it’s not a one off it needs to be sorted asap before someone gets hurt.

  • She shouldn’t get her hopes up. I’ve had 2 dealing with problem food. 1. I kept getting sick from eating a particular box of weet-bix and contacted them to inform them of it. I told them I only felt dizzy and nauseous after eating from that particular box. I went a week without eating those (no symptoms) and then tried it again. They asked for the box to be sent back to them (whilst giving me a little gift package and Coles voucher) a few weeks later they contacted me back saying while there was a rancid smell to the weet-bid they didn’t find anything wrong with them and suggested I was sick with something else. 2. I gave my son a yoghurt tub and he opened and started eating it. Turned out to be rancid. Coles took it back but got the same response “here’s a coles voucher to forget abt it” ur son pron had a bout of diarrhoea coz he is 2. Good on u for sharing it and hopefully Kmart gets back to u!

  • That is very dangerous. I can’t believe no one has addressed this as yet.

  • It could be accidental, but Kmart should be showing more interest.
