As a writer, I have written for (and have friends who write for) a number of online Mum communities. And I have to say, in all my time I have never come across a greater one than here at Mouths of Mums.
I wanted to write this article to thank you, and share with you three reasons why writing for MoM is a real pleasure…
1) You’re all just so friendly!
We all know that there are certain online communities out there that are full of people who find pleasure in putting others down.
As a writer, you are always prepared for nasty comments. Someone might not agree with you (which is always fine) or try to attack you personally for something you have written. We learn to deal with it, just like we deal with rejections for pieces we write every now and then.
It’s part of the job.
So in submitting articles to MoM and watching them get published, I was always prepared for a few nasty comments here and there.
To date, there have been none. And I have not seen any under any of the articles I have read over the past few months.
This is a true credit to you…the reader. I’m sure many people have disagreed with a comment of mine (or two!), but even a different opinion is always expressed with respect, and it just shows the type of people that are involved in this wonderful community.
You are positive, kind, and supportive.
2) You’re keeping it real
I’ve been incredibly disappointed to see the demise of similar websites, after they turned from promoting truly helpful and inspiring articles, to only publishing content that promotes controversy and disagreements.
It also seems pretty shallow to me to visit websites covered in celebrity news and the latest fashion shoes.
I want to read about real Mums, and the experiences they are having.
And I want to share my own thoughts and experiences and hopefully help people along the way.
I am constantly impressed by the quality content I see on MoM, and enjoy reading everything from recipes to questions and articles from inspiring writers.
You’re keeping it real. And I love that.
3) Writing and submitting articles is EASY
When I write, I throw myself (heart and all) into my computer, and wait to see what comes out the other end.
Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes…well, it’s really not!
When I have written something good – something that I know will really help my reader – I can’t wait to get it out there. I just want to see it in print, so I can start seeing the response and connecting with my readers.
I’m extremely impatient (my kids will back me up on that one!), so if I have to go through a difficult process of submitting my article and waiting up to six months for a response, I am generally not interested.
But writing for MoMs is super easy. The online portal, sophisticated back-end and (I’m sure) tireless group of editors we never get to know, are extremely professional and take the pain out of submission.
I can write, submit, and hear back in less than a fortnight on whether my writing has been accepted for publishing. I get to focus on what I love to do most – writing – and let the submission part take care of itself.
I may have gone a little overboard with this article, but I really do want to say a HUGE thank you to Mouths of Mums and all of you (the readers) for building a wonderful community to be a part of.
Maybe this will inspire you to submit your own article and become part of the community as a writer – because quality, authentic articles are hard to find these days. And I want to keep reading them…right here on MoM!
Why do you love MoM? Is the friendliest online community you have ever come across?
