Why This Brave Mum's Breastfeeding Photo Went Viral

A breast cancer survivor is going viral after sharing a touching photo of her breastfeeding her 10-day-old son, proudly showing off her mastectomy scar.

Bo Smith, from Texas, was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, an aggressive and rare form of the disease, three years ago.

The 32-year-old is not afraid to show her battle scars, as seen in the image she posted on Facebook.

“Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you,” she wrote.

She added, “I can’t begin to explain how this feels everyday to be able to breastfeed my son, after losing one breast to cancer and being told I may not ever have this sweet boy in my arms.

“I am not ashamed of this body. This is what continues to remind me of how lucky I am to be here today.”

Her breastfeeding photo has since gone viral, with over 5,500 shares, 17,000 reactions and 1300 comments.

This Mum is not only brave but very lucky to have been able to have a healthy baby. Often the treatment is so aggressive that successful pregnancy is not possible.

Beautiful ! My cousin went through breast cancer and very aggressive treatment some years ago as well. She too has a wee baby now and I’m so happy for her that the tides have turned !

This is great and I think that this woman will be showing other women that they can relate to seeing her with a healthy baby, and that she can breastfeed dispite having. Cancer and beating it.
