A mum is recovering after giving birth to a baby weighing 7.3kg, or 16 pounds and measuring 60cm long. And it’s not her first large newborn!

Cleidiane Santos dos Santos, 27 gave birth to her bouncing baby boy, Angerson, on January 18 at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas State, Brazil. The not-so-little arrival is baby number five for Cleidiane, who has previously given birth to a baby weighing 4kg.

“I did not expect this surprise,” she told Globo. “I thought it would be four kilos, but it turned out to be seven kilos. I want to thank the team at Hospital Padre Colombo, who have been giving me strength and treating me very well, since I arrived here, if it weren’t for them, I don’t know what would have become of me. So, I thank each one.”

Cleidiane was admitted to the hospital the day before the birth, after doctors discovered her son was a Large For Gestational Age baby. It was decided a c-section would be the safest way to deliver Angerson. Despite his size, baby Angerson is doing well and is in a stable condition, with the hospital saying he was breastfeeding.

“He is receiving intensive assistance from the neonatology team, which is responsible for the care,” explained obstetrician Artemisia Pessoa.

“We are only happy, satisfied and grateful that everything worked out in this case, in this risky situation, a rare situation that also ended up surprising us, because we were imagining a baby weighing around six kilos, based on the ultrasound, but he still exceeded that expectation.”

Wow, what an amazing birth!
