You know that life is finally getting back to normal when you can pick up a traditional sausage sanga after a trip to buy some pot plants and paint. That’s right – the Bunnings sausage sizzle is back.

We’ve certainly missed our ritual of a delicious, freshly grilled sausage with caramelisd onions and ketchup, after a visit to Bunnings. A promise of the Bunnings sausage sizzle was really the only way we could bribe our kids to come along with us. Thank goodness it’s back.

In a massive announcement, Bunnings’ chief operating officer Deb Poole shared on 2GB this morning, that the iconic Bunnings sausage sizzle will return to all Bunnings stores in the ACT this coming weekend and NSW next weekend.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Is Back!

“We are really, really excited to announce that our Bunnings sausage sizzle is back in NSW and the ACT from this weekend,” she said.

What About Victoria?

There is still no news about when the grill will be dusted off in Victoria stores, where strict lockdown restrictions are still in place.

Fund-Raising

“It means so much to so many people. It supports a lot of community causes and raises a lot of money for the local community. It is loved,” Ms Poole said.

Ms Poole said that 130 community groups, including Lions Club and Rotary, are ready to get sizzling and are all geared up to start raising much-needed funds.

So make sure you “get down to your local Bunnings and support your local community,” Ms Poole added.

Extra Cleaning

To abide by COVID-safe rules, “there is extra hygiene and cleaning taking place, social distancing, and weโ€™ll be using the NSW app so customers can check in to make sure itโ€™s safe for the customers and the community.”

Now, most of the country, besides Victoria, has welcomed back the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle.

The hardware giant suspended its sausage sizzles in March this year, cover COVID-19 fears.

  • Our P&C used this to leverage permission to sell sausage sandwiches on ACT election day. That’s great too.

  • We only shop once a month as we have to travel 2 hours away. Being able to get a sausage sizzle was always something to look forward to. So glad it’s coming back and it will help with a lot of the fundraising too.

  • I don’t like them. The fumes are a problem. BBQ fumes in general are carcinogenic. “BBQ smoke contains a high level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are known to cause DNA mutations, respiratory disease, and even lung cancer”. But as with smoking I think it will be a long time before we’ll look back in this era and say ‘how could they think it was ok’
