The sun is shining and the weather is unseasonably warm, ideal conditions to get outdoors and start getting active and ready for summer! So where do you start?! Well, grab a towel or a yoga mat, and your ipad or laptop and start with 15minutes of home yoga on the back deck, garden or courtyard because as little as 15minutes of yoga a day, can really make a big difference to how you feel both inside and out, especially when practised outdoors in the fresh air.

In fact, developing a home yoga practise is easy – there are a heap of online classes you can follow and of course, you can just make up your own.

However, Simone Skinner-Smith of The Mobile Yogi has done all the hard work for you! She specialises in brining yoga into the homes, work places and schools of Sydney-siders and she believes if you can breathe, you can do yoga.

The Mobile Yogi has recently produced a simple and ‘Gentle 15minute Home Yoga Class’  which you can watch and follow online. This short and easy to follow class is ideal for beginners or those looking to start a regular home practise. You can view this class at:

And The Mobile Yogi has a few tips to help make setting up a regular home yoga practise easy:

  1. Find a comfortable, quiet place to roll out your mat or towel. Not always easier with the kids around but possible when they go to school.
  2. Try and practise in the same spot and same time each day. Developing consistency and a routine is very helpful.
  3. Turn off your phone or at least place it on silent…this is your 15minutes!
  4. But set a timer! You can get some great apps on itunes that ring a peaceful gong to let you know your time is up…very pleasant and ideal for meditation or relaxation time.
  5. Listen to your body, don’t over do it or don’t put yourself into any positions you aren’t confident with.
  6. Work with your breath. Remember to breathe in and out through the nose while practising yoga and start your practise by taking a few deep breaths to centre yourself.

And of course, The Mobile Yogi always recommends finishing off a practice with meditation or relaxation. This is the reward at the end of the class – so don’t miss out and cut corners. Give yourself this downtime…even for just a few minutes!

And happy home yoga-ing. Yoga at home is simple, free and so very good for you. The hardest part is rolling out the mat and starting…so what are you waiting for?!

  • I’ve always wanted to give yoga a go. The gym I go to holds the classes at the same time as the ones I regularly do. So I might give this a go at home if I can get 15 minutes of quiet time to myself.
