You do it almost every day, so why not make a few extra dollars and help others at the same time?

If it’s brown, don’t flush it down, donate it instead! Poo transplants are essential for sufferers of a number of medical conditions, but with not enough donors coming forward, the Centre for Digestive Disease is now offering to pay for people who can produce healthy stools suitable for the treatment.

Providing The Good Stuff

Autism, multiple sclerosis and chronic diarrhoea are just some of the conditions where faecal transplants are being trialled as a potential treatment option. As reported by kidspot.com.au, to be eligible to be a donor, you need to fill out a form, have a simple blood test and provide three stool samples. You also need to be of a healthy weight, eat a variety of foods including pulses, prawns, and eliminate a number of others including corn and cured meats. Antibiotics are also a big no-no, as good bacteria are essential to the process, and you must live within an hour of the centre at Five Dock to ensure a timely deposit. No wonder they’re struggling to find suitable donors!

In all seriousness though, faecal transplants have the potential to be a life-changing treatment option for people with chronic and debilitating conditions. If you think you could be a suitable candidate for donation, it’s worth contacting the centre and finding out more about the process. Plus you can earn some extra cash for going about your daily business!

  • Wrong state and not too sure I would want to. Getting samples for stools not sure.

  • My SIL was a recipient of a fecal transplant for her condition. Thanks to the treatment, she is not in constant pain and no longer besties with the local hospital staff. She still has food restrictions for the rest of her life, but small payoff for not having to deal with what she did before the transplant.
I could donate, but apart from being in the entirely wrong state, I still have a few extra kgs to lose yet, almost 4months postpartum, I already eliminated the “avoid” foods.
FYI- Prawns/Shellfish are on the Avoid list, not the “please include” list.

  • I don’t think I could do it. It grosses me out thinking about it and I don’t like prawns so would be ineligible anyway!
