Hello!

Spring is here and already the temperature is rising… which can only mean one thing – it’s time to strip off!

When it comes to feeling your best this spring, there’s nothing better than a bit of active living to get your skin glowing, your body toned and your mind firing.

So how can you take control of your fitness this season to ensure you bring your hottest self to the sunshine party?

Here are my top three beach-fit tools for getting in shape and feeling the vibe this season:

1) iphone

When it comes to having a pocket health organiser, you can’t get much better than the iPhone 6.

Offering a whole plethora of amazing apps and fitness-synched options that will have you bouncing out of bed and along the pavement, the iPhone is the best in its class of digital personal trainers.

Apple’s very own health app alone allows you gain a complete picture of your health; tracking your nutrition, sleep patterns, fitness, weight, heart rate and body measurements.

If you’re feeling serious, you can pair it up with some amazing accessories to further enhance your training (with my personal favourites the Withings Wireless Body Analyzer and Digital Scale and the Withings Aura Smart Sleep System), and if you’re not, the simple yet effective Strava or Nike+ apps do just as well in keeping you on purpose.

Alternatively, you can simply enjoy the music/podcast player and the built-in GPS as you run/skip/hop/jump/walk your way to greatness.

Either way, you won’t want to leave home without it.

2) Fitness watch

When it comes to fitness wearables, I haven’t yet tried the apple watch, but I can certainly recommend the ones I have tried, which are the TomTom Multisport Cardio and the Fitbit Surge.

With myself a wearer of the TomTom, and my husband a wearer of the Surge, we wouldn’t be without them when it comes to the path of wellness.

With a built-in heart monitor, I love that the TomTom is able to give me a true indication of how hard my body is having to work when I run or walk (without the need to wear a chest strap), and I also enjoy having all my activity stats in one place on the TomTom MySports mobile app (via wireless syncing) which presents my data to me in a stylish and easy-to-understand way.

As for the Fitbit Surge watch, my husband wears it all the time as his main watch. It not only traces his sporting achievements, but also records his whole-day activity (and even sleep!). Again, with a heart rate monitor built into the watch along with GPS, it’s a favourite with him for its simplicity and high performance. And the best bit for me? His smart phone texts and calls come through on his Surge, so now there’s no excuse for him not to answer!

3) Active gear

I only have one place I shop when it comes to feeling the goods and getting in the zone in relation to active gear – and that is Lorna Jane.

With an attention to detail and style, and a whole host of fab brights to choose from, I love the way that the Lorna Jane pieces make me feel when I put them on. I am sure they actually make me run faster!

Even on those days when I am feeling a bit ‘meh’ about the whole pathway to ‘feeling good and looking great’, once I have donned a pair of LJ tights (got these and these) and an LJ sports bra (love this one and this one – they have such great shape and support), I’m ready to rule the world.

Throw in a coffee on top of this and it’s getting dangerous!

With so many styles to choose from, harnessing a range of lux sports materials that truly breathe (keeping you warm when it’s fresh, and cool when your body’s working up a sweat), I will always be an LJ fan. They even wash well, with my Lorna Janes not yet looking tired or old despite some of my pieces being over a year old.

I even wear my LJs on my days I’m not working out, just because they are so comfy/cool/sassy/practical. It’s my official ‘mummy uniform’!

Now there’s NO reason not to look hot when on the road to hotness…

  • I know what you need to do……eat right!!! Once you do that, then the weight will come off and you can incorporate exercise to tone up.
I agree that the use of a fitness app or watch does help. PT in my Pocket is a good one to get.
