Hello!

We are so excited. Australia is getting another IKEA! This time round, it’s going to be a ‘mini store’ that will offer IKEA lovers tailored design inspiration.

The new store will open on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in Westfield Warringah Mall during May this year.

This is going to be a completely different concept to the massive warehouse shopping experience that we are used to. This new outlet will be designed to be a ‘Home Planning Studio’ and will provide personalised consultations about a whole range of home design.

The spotlight will be on helping customers to create the perfect IKEA kitchen and bedroom and as reported in the Daily Mail, there will be plenty of staff on the floor to offer their tips.

Inspire

Just like the regular IKEA stores, there will be plenty of beautifully put-together rooms that will inspire the designer in all of us. The new shop will include a bedroom zone, a kitchen section and lots of storage solutions.

IKEA has not, at this stage, confirmed exactly what products the store will stock but we hope it will include their basic ranges as well as all their household paraphernalia.

I’m hoping there will be a cafe so we can pick up our favourite Swedish meatballs and grab their famous $1 hotdogs. And if they have their signature Småland, I’ll be one happy mum. PLEASE!!!

This new store is set to be a bit of an experiment for the Swedish mega-retailer and if successful, more concept stores will open around the country.

More IKEA’s To Open

CEO of the Swedish giant, Jan Gardberg has said previously there are plans to make IKEA’s online shopping easier and the company is also looking to move away from the massive warehouse-style stores.

‘We have more than 40 years of home furnishing experience here in Australia and we want to take that and transform that home furnishing knowledge into the virtual and electronic world also,’ Mr Gardberg told Canstar Blue.

There are currently 10 IKEA stores in Australia, with this number expected to grow to around 40 within the next 10 years.

  • I love shopping at Ikea for their food, furniture and home accessories.

  • I wish one would open up here in Country Vic. I have to travel half an hour to get to Big W or KMart and even Coles anyway, and would love to go to Ikea as well while I’m in the (small) city.

  • This store is too large so I think a mini version is a great idea. Bring it to other states too. Hope it works out well so they bring it here too.

  • Used to love going to Ikea, though the drive & warehouse layout gets tiring with kids in tow. The new concept + more online shopping sounds promising.

  • I’ve only been to IKEA once and I felt so rushed to get in and get out. You couldn’t move. This new one sounds like a good idea but I live in WA so doesn’t really interest me

  • Great news for Sydneysiders. IKEA is not close to me but I’m not here or there about it.

  • I love Ikea. It’s a pity it’s far away from where I live (around 80 km) but when I am in that area, I always go and explore it!!

  • A store concentrating on room design would be great, so much easier than trying to visualise what would be the most practical / fit the rooms the best and look nice. It helps if you can take the measurements of the room/s with you.

  • IKEA is great, it is annoying the inspiration section and the actual stuff section. Online click and collect would be just so much easier

  • Sounds like a great idea. I like the products but hate getting lost in there.
