I was very impressed when I got to try the black and gold products. The cashier unfortunately couldn’t get the voucher to work but I still went and bought the products as they were such good value. We got so much stuff and made some ham and cheese scrolls and Vegemite scrolls. Also some scones with jam and cream. The quality of the products were great and the kids loved their lunchbox snacks.
The scrolls were black and gold puff pastry sheets with tomato sauce and ham and cheese and Vegemite and cheese. Roll them up and cut them into little circles. Place on a lined tray. Bake in oven for 10-15mins at 160 degrees fan forced. Enjoy.

Wanted to share this super simple recipe for pan pancakes which is a super easy lunch box snack.
I used black and gold self raising flour, and it worked an absolute treat!

Slowly pour in cups of milk and stir until a smooth but thick consistency. Then pour th3 mix into a lined rectangle pan. Cook on 180 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes (check after 15 minutes and cook an additional 5 if needed). Let cool and then enjoy!
Ingredients:
3 cups of sifted self raising flour
3 free-range eggs
1 tbs baking powder
1 1/2 tbs vanilla extract
3-4 tbs caster sugar
2 cups of light milk
4 tbs organic mixed berry jam (as a top spread).

This recipe requires staple ingredients which I picked up from IGA MtWaverley and is perfect for a lovely lunch box morning tea. My Greek shortbread style biscuits require mainly items in the Black and Gold range - Plain flour, SR flour, raw sugar, cream and butter. I also needed eggs and oranges for their juice and grated rind. Mix all ingredients together to make a dough and form into shapes. After baking we end up with fragrant orange buttery biscuits that kids love and can be popped in the lunch box. Along with some fresh fruit they make a delicious morning tea. I love that most of the ingredients are Black and Gold so the savings are great and as this range is high quality, the biscuits are both delicious and economical!

After successfully making my lunchbox quiches with black and gold ingredients, I headed back to my local IGA to stock up on some black and gold pantry staples to make the kids some choc chip cookies. All the ingredients were easy to find, amazing value and were very comparable to the big name brands. I purchased black and gold self raising flour, white suagr, brown sugar, butter and choc chips. Recipe as below:
Choc chip cookies
- 125g butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 3/4 cups self raising flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup choc chips
- 60g chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 180°C and line baking trays with baking paper. Cream together the butter, sugars and vanilla essence. Gradually add the beaten egg, then sift in flour. Stir in the salt, choc chips and walnuts. Shape teaspoons of mixture into balls and arrange on trays allowing space for spreading. Press each ball down to slightly flatten. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Makes about 30 cookies
The walnuts can be omitted if the school has a no nuts policy.

Pleasently surprised by the local IGA. Prices were affordable and quite often matched other big supermarkets, good specials, and the deli area was great. The basics (flour & zuchini's for the slice) were well priced and very affordable. So affordable and such good quality that I stocked up on other basics that weren't part of the recipe but that I used to make muffins and lunchbox treats for the kids and afterschool. It made a difference to the budget and at the moment, with the cost of living as high as it is, every little bit helps.

I loved using Black & Gold products again to create more lunchbox snacks, and they were perfect for baking.
This time I made mini petit four style biscuits with pistachio and chocolate, peach jam filled cookies... All using Black & Gold ingredients.
The quality is great and very consistent, especially for baking. The ingredients
worked really well together, the flavours
came out delicious, and the textures were
perfect. My family loved them, and they’re
ideal for school lunches or afternoon
snacks
What I really like is that black and gold products are affordable without compromising on quality, which makes a big difference when preparing snacks regularly for kids.

Black and Gold wholemeal bread is still high on the agenda but so has cheddar cheese slices that Black and Gold has also proved to be a favourite and melts really well on the cheese muffins I make for my daughters lunches.

I used the black and gold oats and a few other ingredients (mostly pantry staples) to bake this delicious banana and blueberry oat slice. This recipe is easy to make, very cost affective, can be enjoyed for a quick easy brekky warm or cold. It also freezes and reheats nicely for prepping convenience. It’s so good it’s nearly like a dessert for brekky.
I like to bake a tray to eat fresh and a tray to feeeze. I serve it with some Greek yoghurt (or yoghurt if your choice).
Find the recipe below!
Ingredients:
2 bananas sliced long ways
2 cups of oats
2 cups of milk
2 tablespoons of honey (optional)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract/essence
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional hut I found without it it was a bit too soft)
1 cup of blueberries (I used frozen)
Method:
-Spray/ grease your baking dish
-Line the bottom with the sliced bananas
-Cover the bananas with the oats- I also then sprinkle over the chia seeds.
-Combine the milk, eggs, honey, vanilla and cinnamon then pour over the oats.
-Top with your blueberries.
-Bake for around35-40 minutes until the top is golden.
Eat as is or serve with some yoghurt on top.
If freezing allow to cool completely before portioning, I wrapped mine in baking paper then cling wrap to allow easy reheating in the paper without making a mess!

I love shopping at IGA because it’s so close by rather than the long drive to bigger supermarkets. My favourite part at my IGA is the hot food in the deli which is good price and delicious such a quick easy lunch for me and the kids. Although IGA can be more pricy compared to other supermarkets it’s well worth it for the quality and freshness

Loving the IGA home brand products. The flour is a great quality, and helps to make some lovely snacks, when tossed in the mix. Some delicious home made Blueberry Muffins that came together nicely, add to the home made mix some fresh and delicious fluffy pancakes, a nice side to have with all that yummy fresh fruit.

‘I Grabbed My Car Keys And RAN!’ The New Supermarket Bread Everyone’s Talking About
Mum-of-two Rebecca McCracken has spent the last four years reading ingredient lists on pretty much everything she buys at the supermarket.
Like many parents raising kids with food allergies, a quick trip to the supermarket often means checking labels, comparing products and hoping to find something the whole family can eat.
Bec’s four-year-old son and 17-month-old daughter were both born with cow’s milk protein allergy. While her son has since outgrown his allergies, her toddler still reacts to dairy, making even everyday staples like bread a challenge.
“Unless we buy expensive sourdough for seven or eight dollars, we don’t really have a choice.”
Even then, it’s not ideal.
“A kid doesn’t want to eat a sourdough sandwich,” Bec laughs. “And fairy bread on sourdough is not great.”
A New Loaf On The Block
Bec runs an online community for allergy families, so she spends plenty of time sharing recipes, product finds and supermarket discoveries with other parents.
It was one of those parents who first told her about new JUST bread.
“A follower messaged me and said, ‘Oh my gosh, this bread is coming soon.’ I was like, ‘Where? When? I need to know. I’m getting my car keys and running!'”
Made with baker’s flour, water, yeast, vinegar, oil and salt, JUST bread contains no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours.
For Bec, it sounded almost too good to be true. “When we saw JUST bread, I was like, ‘You’re joking.’ A bread that’s fresh baked but in the bread aisle? That’s unheard of for us.”
“It was really exciting for our family and for the allergy community.”
The Family’s Toughest Critic Approved
Of course, there was one person whose opinion mattered more than anyone else’s.
“My toughest critic is my daughter. She is so fussy. We know something is really good if she approves it, and she approves it. She loves it. She’ll eat it plain, toasted, as French toast … whatever. She loves it.”
Bec says she was impressed too.
“I like it. I like that it’s only got minimal ingredients and doesn’t have the additives and preservatives that are in a lot of other brands.”
A Simpler Option For Everyday Families
Bec tried out JUST bread because of her family’s allergies, but she says it has a broader appeal.
“I think everyone is becoming more conscious of additives and preservatives in their food.”
It’s a feeling many of us can probably relate to. We don’t all want to overhaul the way we eat, but plenty of us are paying a little more attention to ingredient lists and looking for products that keep things simple.
Bread is one of those foods that’s always around. It ends up in lunchboxes, on the breakfast table, alongside soup on a cold night and covered in hundreds and thousands at birthday parties. When we eat something that often, it’s only natural to wonder what’s in it.
JUST bread keeps things simple with a handful of pantry ingredients and no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours. It’s the sort of loaf that fits easily into busy family life without asking us to compromise on taste or convenience.
Little Changes, Big Difference
For Bec, finding a loaf of bread her whole family can enjoy is about more than ticking another item off the shopping list.
“It seems like such a little thing to the normal community, but for us this is a massive win.”
Being able to make sandwiches without worrying about ingredients. Packing lunchboxes a little more easily. Bringing back fairy bread for birthdays. Sometimes it’s the little things that make family life feel a whole lot simpler.
And while Bec found JUST bread because she needed another allergy-friendly option, its simple ingredient list is likely to appeal to plenty of other families too. After all, when we can choose everyday foods made with ingredients we recognise, that’s a pretty good place to start.
JUST Bread is made on a line that also processes soy and sesame.
Mouths of Mums is proudly working with JUST. to bring you this article. JUST bread is made with just a handful of pantry ingredients. JUST. The Good Stuff.
I am so glad to hear about this and will definitely be on a look out for this in the supermarket. I have noticed that there are starting to be more ‘cleaner’ products in the supermarket, meaning consumers are being heard. We are going full circle back to how foods use to be produced before companies got greedy and started taking shortcuts to producing food items. I hope we continue seeing more preservative and additive free options that are affordable come back in the supermarkets.

Grabbing your car keys and running for a bread ?? I can’t imagine doing so for a bread lol ! It’s nice to see that more and more allergy friendly products are being produced and put on the market.
I don’t agree with the statement that “A kid doesn’t want to eat a sourdough sandwich”. It depends on what type of bread you introduce to your kids. My kids grew up with 7 seeds, rustic bread and sourdough and they love it. It’s also quite easy and cheap to make sourdough bread yourself.
I haven’t seen this bread in the supermarket but will be looking for it now. I have been trying to avoid preservatives and additives for some time now and as highlighted in the article bread it difficult to find, or super expensive, without them so I don’t have it often.
This is fantastic, finally a bread that is not full of nasty stuff. I will be going straight out to buy this. My son has ARFID and will only eat white bread, but it’s not terribly healthy. With this bread, at least I know that it is much healthier than the alternatives. Woohoo
I cant wait to give this bread a go (so far its always been sold out at my local woolies so it must be good). So good its suitable for those with allergies too. I think nowadays were all looking for cleaner options of ingredients in our foods so this is a step in the right direction.
I am glad more and more allergy friendly products are being produced and offered. I don’t agree with Bec’s statement that kids don’t like sourdough bread. My kids were introduced to sourdough and the most rustic and seeded breads from the time they started to eat bread, and they love it
Oh I cannot wait to try this bread! We go through that much bread each week and I always feel so guilty with how much my kids have – not anymore! Would love to see them introduce other variants in the future – multigrain and gluten free would be superb!
This is such a great product that I’m looking forward to trying! I’ve only been buying bread from bakeries the last few years because grocery store bread texture was so dense and unpleasant. But the hassle with bakery bread is I can’t get it everywhere! I’ll be really keen to give this a go

perfect. My family loved them, and they’re
ideal for school lunches or afternoon
snacks
What I really like is that black and gold products are affordable without compromising on quality, which makes a big difference when preparing snacks regularly for kids.

Healthy, easy brekky prep!
I like to bake a tray to eat fresh and a tray to feeeze. I serve it with some Greek yoghurt (or yoghurt if your choice).
Find the recipe below!
Ingredients:
2 bananas sliced long ways
2 cups of oats
2 cups of milk
2 tablespoons of honey (optional)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract/essence
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional hut I found without it it was a bit too soft)
1 cup of blueberries (I used frozen)
Method:
-Spray/ grease your baking dish
-Line the bottom with the sliced bananas
-Cover the bananas with the oats- I also then sprinkle over the chia seeds.
-Combine the milk, eggs, honey, vanilla and cinnamon then pour over the oats.
-Top with your blueberries.
-Bake for around35-40 minutes until the top is golden.
Eat as is or serve with some yoghurt on top.
If freezing allow to cool completely before portioning, I wrapped mine in baking paper then cling wrap to allow easy reheating in the paper without making a mess!

I made mini pancakes for my little one and she devoured it. She loved it for brekkie and it's definitely going in her lunch box occasionally.
Here is the recipe:

Butter - 1 tablespoons
Milk - enough to make a pourable batter
Sugar - as per your preference
Eggs - one
Mix the ingredients together to make a loose batter.
Pour onto your pan
Wait for the Pancakes to bubble
Flip and serve
Optional: you can add fruits. I used a drizzle of honey here.
