Bath paints are FUN FUN FUN!! Often however, they contain soap, which is no problem for most kids, but if your child is like mine and has sensitive skin, this is a great alternative – that can be used every day – FUN FUN FUN!!

Material

  • Corn starch
  • Water
  • Food Colouring

Method

  1. Add equal parts of corn starch and water, mix well.
For a fun bath I used about 1/2 a cup of each.
  2. Divide into smaller containers, or like we did - use an ice tray - as it has great little separate compartments!
  3. Into each container (or compartment) add a little food colouring. A little will go along way, I literally dipped a toothpick into the food coloring and then into each compartment. Stir Stir Stir!!
  4. Your bath paint is now ready. If you make it in advance it may need a stir before using as the cornstarch settles.

Notes

After we played in the bath I was completely able to spray it all off, you may want to be careful around grouting, and if you are worried, test some first, before the artist arrives.

  • Fantastic idea. I wonder if it would work in some kind of bath oil for those with super sensitive skin.

    • I think you could try and add food colouring to anything really. Just be careful with the surface – adding it into oil may stain tiles and especially grouting. Would love to know how it works out!

  • does it wash off ok? this is how you make actual home made paint so would be worried it would stain the bath.

    • We have used this a few times in a white bath and so far no staining at all. I use such a little bit of color. After the Kids are finished I spray it off. Test some first if you are worried. The alternative it to use equal parts cornflour, baby wash and a little bit of color – the soap will make sure it washes off. x

  • For the benefit of those in rental properties does the food colouring stain the bath or grout between the tiles at all?

    • I might be careful about grouting that has not been sealed. It is absorbent and may just make a mark. x
