Now You Can Recycle Your Balloons

ZURU are inspiring Aussie kids to be conscious consumers. Bunch O Balloons stems and caps are now not only made with 100% fully certified traceable post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic materials and they can be recycled in a free consumer programme.

ZURU Co-Founder and COO Anna Mowbray said passionate Bunch O Balloons fans made it “very clear to us” that as much as they love a good water fight they value and respect the planet.

“It was on the back of enormous enthusiasm from consumers as well as deeply held determination within ZURU’s production teams that we invested heavily in Bunch O Balloons manufacturing to make considerable changes to our processes,” said Mowbray.

2nd Life For The Balloons

After each epic water fight, fans are encouraged to collect the foil packaging, caps and stems, download a printable free shipping label and send them to TerraCycle at no cost for recycling. Recycled plastic goes onto a second life, turned into ‘nurdles’ used to create playground equipment, park benches, picnic tables and more.

“We’re committed to inspiring low cost fun and enabling everyone to participate in our recycling programme as part of building a zero-waste mindset in kids, says Mowbray.

  • We bake homemade treats and muffins for school lunches instead of buying packets and we use our compost for green waste.

  • I tell them that the animals will be the ones that suffer if we leave plastics laying around and we need to dispose of it properly, and try not to use it unless we have too.

  • I tell them all the non-recyclable things I had as a child are still sitting in a tip somewhere and if they don’t want to tell the same to their kids one day then we need to be more conscious of what we buy and the possible waste from it.

  • We have compost and worm farms

  • By teaching them that most things can have a second d life as something else so we don’t clog up our environment and have a healthy planet to live on for years to come.

  • We participate in earn and return and recycling programs. We talk about reusing old items or repurposing exisiting products for a better tomorrow

  • Dont waste anything and putting recycles in the right bin

  • We recycle all throughout our house and the children are involved in this.

  • I let them see me living those practices. We recycle, we up-cycle and we discuss shopping decisions at times. Do we need it? Is it good for the environment? Its an important way to teach children most things.

  • We use as many things as we can at home for arts & crafts, or to make things into planters for our garden. My 4 year old is recycling obsessed now

  • I show them videos of landfill, turtles with plastic ring ties around their necks, contents in sharks’ stomachs and get them to know the effect & conseuqences of not disposing of waste properly and of non biodegradable products. Never too young to learn and appreciate

  • When grocery shopping we always buy the individual fruit/veg instead of prepacked because of the waste factor. My children love adopting new ways to save the environment.

  • I get my 5yo daughter to help with chores around the house and this includes cleaning. We have a designated recycle bin, compost bin and other waste bin. We also make a trip to our local return-and-earn machine once a month and she gets to keep the money we get back from recycling our bottles and cans.

  • By getting them involved! We grow our own vegies with our own compost, sort rubbish for recycling and my kids LOVE op shopping where we can give a used piece of clothing a new life!

  • Think before you throw. Garden composting and turning lights off etc

  • By choosing products with the recycling logo and having separate bins at home, recycling, rubbish and compost. They learn what we can reuse for the environment and what must go to landfill, they love seeing the rubbish bin be less and less as they learn and recycling more

  • I lead by example

  • We always recycle everything we can. We have separate bins inside for our cans/bottles and plastic/paper. We take our cans/bottles to recycle centre for the kids to get a little extra pocket money.

  • Reduce, Recycle, Reuse,
    Our world we shouldn’t abuse.
    We make our own cleansers,
    Soaps, Washes, Cleaners,
Reusing/recyling jars and bottles is what we choose.
Buy and use items that can be used twice,
Keeps the world healthy, happy and nice.

  • My 3yr old son is learning about recycling at home, sorting the rubbish and putting recycling in his “jobs” box. We try and reuse items, either for craft projects (egg cartons, boxes, making shakers from bottles filled with rice).
