For the bilingual family, or those who would just love their child to learn a second language, the LeapFrog 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is a great place to start.

Interactive Language Fun

Join animal friends Turtle, Tiger and Monkey as you explore 100-plus vocabulary words. Touch the pictures on each colourful page to hear the animals say words and share exciting facts and sound effects. Immerse your child in bilingual play by sliding the language switch to hear the words, songs, and instructions in Mandarin Chinese. Touch the pictures to hear silly sound effects in Fun Sounds mode or press the light-up star button to hear two learning songs.

The included 32-page Learning Activity Guide provides parents with hands-on activities and teaching tips to help children get the most enjoyment and learning out of this bilingual book. Using everyday items, parents can help children make connections between the concepts and vocabulary and real-life actions and objects.

What Mums Are Saying

@BowtifulChescaDoll (Mum to Chesca, 2 and Gabby, 6): “It’s great educational material for bilingual children and even parents to learn and recall some of the basic words, phrases and songs in Chinese (Mandarin).  I also highly recommend this for older children who will learn a lot of basic Mandarin words from this book.

“Chesca listened to me as she touched the correct pictures of each corresponding word I asked for in English.  When she switched to Chinese mode, I asked her to touch each picture again and repeat what the book said in Chinese. She did so well in listening to my instructions.  I love how this book keeps her engaged in learning both languages while being attentive!”

@Brayjoe828 (Mum to 4 children): “Dion had so much fun exploring 100 plus vocabulary words in English and Chinese.  I love how with the slide of a button your child can immerse in bilingual play.  This will help them build a strong and solid literacy foundation.”

bilingualkidspot.com: “Kids can either be immersed in bilingual play, or for families with a Chinese and an English-speaking parent, each parent can use the book in their native language.  With Chinese being one of the most spoken languages in the world, it is fast becoming a popular language to learn for English speakers.

“Learning a second language while young is so much easier than learning as an adult, when children are able to distinguish better between sounds and therefore, they are able to imitate and pronounce them more easily.”

For toddlers aged 12 months and over, the 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is available from Big W.

  • How amazing, I’d love to see my children learn and explore a second language! It would bring them appreciation of other cultures and a great sense of achievement.

  • Preparation for when international travel recommences. We have a great opportunity to explore our own backyard in the coming 2 years, but never hurts to support the exploration of other languages for when those borders reopen.

  • How much more diverse the world would be if we could all learn a second language. My niece and I are learning japanese together and it’s great. One day we will go to Tokyo Disneyland together and speak in Japanese the whole trip 🙂

  • I would love my little one to explore another language so he can connect with his heritage and also so he can understand our family history and culture. These days learning a second language when younger helps a great deal as they grow up and it will be easier for them to learn too.

  • He already has two languages from each parent but he would love to learn a new one as he is so curious and inquisitive about the world.

  • I want them to learn another language so she can interact with non English speaking kids . We live in a community with many Chinese kids. It will also stimulate her brain and keep her off the tablet

  • I grew up speaking 2 languages and there is no better way to connect to another culture than speaking the same. There is a better understanding and I formed so many connections speaking another language.

  • As I child I grew knowing only one language English – and all my friends around me knew 2 languages.
I would love the opportunity to teach my children another language from a young age

  • With a background of Mandarin it will be great for my son to have the added benefit to learn that with English.

  • With all of my children attending multicultural educational centres this would be great for expanding their knowledge with their frie.nds.

  • I would love for my daughter to learn multiple languages to give her greater opportunities for work and travel when she is older. I also grew up learning a second language and would love for her to experience the same.

  • Second language is important for my kids because it will always make them appreciative of other ethnicity and other cultures.

  • If you need to hide something—something is wrong.

  • My husband and I growing up in multilingual country, we know that it is important for our kids to learn second language. It can increase their social skills and also important way for them to increase cultural awareness.

  • my youngest grand child is trying to learn Chinese but we cant afford the leap frog kit what a lovely prize it would be for this 6 year old

  • Growing up, living with grandparents, my kids love speaking in Vietnamese! Seeing them explore a second language is a remarkable thing to watch and certainly something we will always encourage!

  • We are a bilingual family, we speak Mandarin and English, my elder son who is 4 now is bilingual too, we have taught him to speak both languages and we are hoping we can continue this learning so he can be fluent in both.

  • Because I am growing speaking 3 languages and finally learnt another 2 languages and it is amazing to be able to communicate in more than one language. I’d love my kids to also learn more than one language.

  • So good for their development and opens up so many opportunities for them in the future.

  • To help develop language skills and be able to have the chance I was never given growing up in the country.
