  • my cousin taught me how to make a tonka truck look alike with a metal mechano set, I felt so clever!

  • Playing in the sandpit building roads for trucks and cars using the grader and backhoe and inviting the neighbourhood kids over to join in. No batteries, no problems. Used our hands and our imaginations.

  • Playing in the dirt stealing my brothers tonka trucks and throwing mud pies at them when they wouldn’t let their little sister play ohh they were the days

  • it was my 4th birthday and I got my first Tonka truck and I also had a huge mound of dirt to dig in I was in my glory

  • I remember choosing Tonka over dolls any day, especially in the sandpit, with the dog!
… meanwhile Barbie and Ken had to settle for living the clean life .. well I think so anyway!!

  • Big brother sat me in the back,
    Of our giant Tonka truck.
Pushed me down a steep hill,
    As he wished me luck!
    Zooming over bumps and rocks,
I held on ever so tight.
    Yelled out ‘Let’s go again!’,
Even though I almost died of fright!

  • Being a young girl hanging with my dad, helping dad working on his car. Girls didn’t get Tonka trucks, they got dolls. So I used to take my brothers Tonka truck, the big yellow one and go and play in the sand pit. Happy memories

  • Tonka for me meant playing with my big brother and his friends. There was a lot of chasing each other with our Tonka toys in hand, bumping, crashing and laughter. I’d love to share the same experience with my two boys.

  • Digging in the sandpit with David and Michael – the neighbours two doors up – early on a Saturday morning

  • Actually driving so many trucks into the sand, I couldn’t find them all when it was time to go home!

  • Going to my sisters house and playing with their big crane tonka. So old but so fun

  • Filling my big yellow Tonka truck full of flowers and driving it so fast as I’m chasing my brothers around the garden. Good tip – a Tonka full of flowers always crossed the finish line first and surly outrun my brothers full of dirt every time.

  • I liked the bug yellow, I got dolls but I wanted the trucks

  • I remember building roads and tracks in our makeshift racetracks so we could race our motorbikes and matchbox cars, having 3 brothers I wasn’t into dolls, I was the biggest tomboy.

  • Running over my little brothers toes in the sandpit with my giant Tonka truck was always hilarious!

  • Seeing the new Tonka on the end of my bed on my 8th birthday. Being a girl it wasn’t ‘normal’ but it was my favourite for years!

  • Playing in the sandpit with my bro,
    Good times always flowed.
    Making a mess,
    Causing Mum some stress.
