Hello!

Hi Mums,
My baby has turned 11 months recently and this last week has been hell. I’ve come to realise over the past 6 months that she has a challenging temperament. She never independently plays, she cries, whines and screams most days – sometimes for no reason. In this last week she consistently whines all day, consistent meltdowns/tantrums, everything is a battle from nappy changes, changing her clothes, putting her in the car seat, meal times (loosing interest in the middle of it) etc. She will also not sit still – getting into everything which is to be expected. I just want to know if it gets easier! I know she has had some teeth popped through and is developmentally going through some sort of leap but I’m exhausted.

  • Being a mum and going through all these stages is hard but I agree with some of the other comments, she could be going through separation anxiety which my daughter did or even teething. Hang in their it will get better but maybe finding some thing that can distract her from that behaviour could help.

  • Aw bless, it can be tough for both you and your toddler. It is the age of separation anxiety, the age they start to develop a bit of their own personality, the age where they haven’t yet developed the communication skills to express their needs and wants and on top of that the age of teething as well.
Try to have compassion for your wee girl and help her to express her needs and wants.

  • Hi

    1. When the baby cries, whines etc check the temperature for a fever first. Strawberry Baby Nurofen helps with fever and teething. The orange one isn’t as nice.
    2. If no fever, warm up milk in the microwave and give it for a drink. The baby is hungry. It should settle baby and hopefully put baby to sleep.
    3. At that time, do nappy change.
    4. Also sing some nursery rhymes off by heart. That should settle the baby.

It’s tough now but it gets tougher when the baby is a toddler, active by running, eats hardly anything and teething more.

    Hope the tips help you.

  • I’d just say hang in there mamma. What I did with my little one is setting up a ball pool and giving her a water bucket and paint brush to paint the fence. She loved it and was easily engaged. Hopefully it settles for you soon. You know what is best for her and am sure you’re doing all of it.

  • In my experience it get easier, then a new kind of hard again. Just when I thought I had it all perfected; naps and bedtime, 3 great and easy meals, he turned 18 months and started seeking independence and finding his opinion. Pair that with running around, it’s hectic. I have found getting a book for him to ‘read’ during nappy changes helps (spot flip books is my go to) because he is getting agro on his back. They love keeping us guessing. I’m just grateful bedtime is back on schedule so I have some chill out time
