Hello!

“My 2 year old used to jump with excitment over a thunderstorm, but now hides and gets upset. I have no idea what has changed , but would love some advice on how to get her back to loving them!” What would you do if your 2 year old is scared of thunderstorms ?

  • If it were me, I’d act a little startled when thunder strikes, but then quickly laugh it off to show my little one that loud sounds do frighten me but that they are not a big deal.

  • With our kids, whenever there is a thunderstorm, we try and stay as calm as possible and keep doing whatever we were doing so it doesn’t really appear to be out of the normal. if our kids are a little stressed, we offer for them to sit on the couch and cuddle with us, still though acting as though things are normal. Really seems to help =)

  • Our son was terrified of storms so we told Mr 3 Year Old that thunder is his Great Nanna dancing in heaven.
Now when we get a thunderstorm he yells stop dancing so loud nanny.

  • My daughter went through this and we took her out on the verandah to watch and made it all exciting

  • Good answers! It was interesting reading the comments to this!

  • My kids say that it is Cloud Pop offs…. lots of laughter!!!!

  • That is a normal thing, don’t worry too much!

  • just stay calm and reassure her that there is nothing to be scared of

  • Sometimes just a bit of reassurance and time is what’s needed. It may just be a phase

  • i get sacred to. its 2 loud

  • We always go out on the porch and watch a storm – might help her get over her fear.

  • Mummy’s being brave and so can you, show them that your not scared of thunderstorms and maybe that might work

  • How is your daughter now with thunderstorms?

  • My daughter sometimes loves them and sometimes is scared of them, but we go out together and watch and listen to them as a family and she realise that they aren’t scary when you have someone else to listen with

  • Some great ideas from some people.

  • We say god is plays bowls again when we hear it. My nan is 92 and still scared of thunderstorms.

  • My grandmother told me fairies come to earth by raindrops and if you look really hard you will see them Kept me looking for hours Thunderstorms were (depending on your belief ) god playing ten pin bowling in heaven and the noise was when they scored We spent hours in the garden looking for fairies The stars were souls of the departed and if you look hard at the moon you see the outline of people playing cards. You could send wishes by blowing on a certain flower Make up a story to comfort her Good luck
