Hello!

Hi Mums,

I have a 8 month old and is not very good with solids yet. Can you please recommend few quick recipes I can prepare for her? I’m stressed that I am not doing great with introducing food to her.

  • Greek yogurt with peanut butter is great for breakfast

Pancakes , you can blend so many different fruits in them for different flavouring

  • Honestly anything your having she can pretty much have except honey !!

  • Spaghetti boiled and strained. Add chopped tomato, onion, oil and simmer the sauce. Mix sauce with spaghetti in small pieces to serve.

My son went off home cooked soups: lentils, rice and beans in a chicken stock very quickly.

What worked for him was the $1 coles or Woolies brand Pouches from the baby section (Chicken and veg soup. Beef and vegetable soup.) I poured the pouch in a microwave bowl, heated it 20 seconds and then served. It was very handy for hangry moments, enough to satisfy and get him to sleep.

  • Making your purees a little bit “bumpy” – ie don’t puree them till they’re smooth – is a good starting point. Don’t get too stressed, introducing solids can be tricky and with some babies it takes a while. When you’re a bit more confident about her not choking, soft plain foods like pancakes or vegetable fritters are good options.

  • At 8 months it’s all about experimenting with taste and food and breast milk and formula are the main nutritional source. Have you looked into baby led weaning ? in this way you can introduce solids slowly and the baby gets to feed him or her self. Your baby may put food in his / her mouth and spit it out and that’s all good. You don’t have to prepare baby food, your baby can join at the dinner table and you may cut foods in finger food sizes (but not to small)

  • At 8 months my little guy loved noshing on toast fingers with mashed avocado. I’d butter both sides so it was nice and soft, crust removed. Very steamed broccoli and carrot. To get him interested in solids I cooked a very large chunk of steak well done, larger than the palm of my hand, and let him suck on it. Once a few teeth came out it was a little scary but he loved it and it really helped his taste for food. There are some great pumpkin Mac and cheese recipes that can be pureed that have heaps of veggies and lentils, then freeze in small portions. Make a big batch of beef stew to puree and freeze. Check the solid starts app for guidance on how to prep and serve different veg and fruit so she can explore colours and flavours
