Hello!

I have suffered with chronic period pain since my periods started at age 14. I’m often crumpled on the floor in agony. Other then heat packs and pain pills, can anyone suggest things to relieve it?

  • I’m sorry you experience this. Maybe see your GP as there may be other issues going on. But unfortunately I don’t have any period pain remedy suggestions apart from the ones you’ve mentioned.

  • Personally I always found warm showers, warm water bottles and heat packs work the best. But when you’re often crumpled up on the floor, I would certainly see your Gp

  • Only thing that worked for me was corral pain relief. You can’t buy this over the counter anymore though as it contains codeine.

  • Go see your GP? Could be something more sinister

  • I sometimes take paracetamol and it works.

  • yeah warm showers to ease cramping, heat packs and panadol.

  • Believe it or not – I didn’t even realise for a couple of months but Calcium tablets helped me. I was given them because medication I was given for another medical condition leeched calcium and minerals from my bones. The tablets may have also had Vitamin D, Vitamin B or magnesium in them. It was Sandocol. I changed tablets quite awhile ago so I don’t have the container.

  • I’m not sure what you have already tried, as if you have been a long term sufferer, then you have probably tried a plethora of things. You could try taking an anti inflammatory like ponstan, which I’m sure you have probably tried – but a day before you are expecting your period. Magnesium is also worth a try, as are whichever one of the B group vitamins that are aimed at helping with menstrual problems. Vitex Agnus might be worth a try. Evening primrose oil, taken at the recommended dose for menstrual problems. I would also see a GP, and maybe get a referral to a gynaecologist, as they are usually aware of the most current treatments for these problems, it may be possible there is a contraceptive pill or similar that can reduce blessing, and there maybe reduce your spasming and severe pain. Best of luck, I know what it’s like to suffer in silence with menatrual problems.

  • Have you been to the Dr – is it possible you have a condition? PCO or endometriosis?

  • This is going to sound really odd & I don’t know personally myself as I usually find a heat pack is enough, but a friend suggested orgasm.
At first I thought she had lost her mind but after looking into it apparently it works!
Your orgasm causes the muscles to contract & can stop cramps imeediately.
There’s also accupuncture & some suggest changing your diet.
    Good luck!

  • Nurofen has pain tablets for periods or definitely visit a doctor if that doesn’t work.

  • You could try taking evening primrose oil. The GP gave me this advice years ago and for some time it functioned. I used to take it in the days before the starting of my cycle and during it.

  • Go and see your GP for advice and a management plan. They are brilliant in helping with severe menstrual pain.
