Hello!

My friend has given birth couple of weeks ago. She had few stitches down there. Now it’s getting too hard for her to sit for long time, especially with feeding the baby (feeding while lying down is not working since baby has reflux).
She bought a donut pillow but she feels like sinking in, not so comfortable.
Any suggestions on the pillows and ideas on how she could get better relief would be greatly appreciated.
Note: She is having pain and bleeding with stitched not recovered properly.

  • I was pretty damaged post birth. I had a donut pillow but didn’t love it. For the first few weeks the only comfortable place was my bed with my pregnancy pillow gathered under me. A few weeks in it does get better!

  • Perhaps trying a recliner with a soft cushion underneath, rathe than lying in bed, may provide some relief.

  • Ouch! Not fun at all. I think she should get checked out by her midwife. I found a cool compress helped with the pain and a frozen pad.

  • Did she tried the cold compres? ( my midwife told me to fill the condon with a water and freeze and then just put in the undies to help healing and cooling it down)

  • I would be seeking medical attention if she is still feeling that much discomfort weeks later. I only experienced pain for the first couple of hours after birth & it stung a bit when urinating for a few days.
I broke my tail bone a few years ago & found my daughters novelty pillow in the shape of an actual donut worked better than the medical one.

  • I remember having discomfort but not pain as such. I would sit in an office chair (big seat) and put a pillow under one side of my bump to avoid putting pressure down there. I would also use my chicco hoppy feeding pillow.

  • I had stitches too and didn’t experience pain afterwards. Maybe she needs them checked out???

  • I think she need to see gp or midwife and check the stitches.

  • A ring cushion is perfect while she is sitting but somtimes lying flat on yoyr back gives you the best relief.

  • To ease discomfort while you’re recovering: Sit on a pillow or padded ring. Cool the area with an ice pack, or place a chilled witch hazel pad between a sanitary napkin and the area between your vaginal opening and anus (perineum).
The donut pillow is highly recommended by some, but not all.

  • I almost wonder whether a super soft feather type pillow would work? Light and not too high but not too padded or hard either?

  • Oh my goodness, sounds super painful!
Can she sit on one of those blue gel ice packs under her?
It’s already hot so I don’t think it’ll make her cold and uncomfortable.

  • I would recommend salt baths and to keep putting ice on it. I had a 3rd degree tear and salt baths really helped it heal quicker allowing me to sit more comfortably.

  • Ouchies! Poor thing. I had this with my first baby, but I just used the inflatable donut pillow and it worked wonders for me.
