Hello!

Hi everyone! I am on maternity leave at the moment and really would like to earn a bit more cash! I am wondering what jobs would allow this? I am currently a registered nurse. I do some surveys etc. But I don’t get a lot.

  • Congrats on the new bub! There are a few options that could work well with a little one around. Since you’re a nurse, you might look into telehealth roles or online nursing consultations, as those can sometimes offer flexibility. Freelance writing or editing for health-related topics could be a good fit too if you enjoy writing. Some mums also do virtual admin or customer service work; many of those roles are remote and can be done on your own schedule. If you enjoy tutoring, online platforms let you teach health or science subjects, which can be done in shorter blocks of time. And if you’re crafty or creative, selling homemade items on Etsy is another popular option for mums at home!

  • Sign up to survey sites. Do them when ever you can. They’re a good side hassle. Helped me alot when my child was born. Allowed me to stay home and have some cash on the side.

  • Could you do some casual work as an RN? I think some companies often hire RN’s to do flu shots, etc on a casual basis?

  • I have just started doing some crafty, cricut tops. Doesn’t make a lot but $20 here and there

  • First of all, are you allowed to work while on mat leave? Not all employers allow that, so I’d double check that first.

  • Surveys – Valued Opinions, SurveyVillage, Ipsos, Live Tribe
Focus Groups – Q&A, Realtime Research, Farron
I also enter a lot of competitions via a forum and it’s really handy when I win vouchers but have also won a lot of prizes like toys and books for our child, or even household appliances (smeg kettle, toaster). I’ve also won a number of holidays which has been amazing.
Thinking a little obscurely though, is there any training or study you can do so that when you are back at work it’ll up your earning potential? Or even a side hustle once a week that relates to your work but isn’t your job….though the latter may not apply if you want to do it from home!

  • I just did surveys as any I come would have cancelled put my centrelink payments

  • If you are into crochet, that’s really big right now!
Handmade items or personal items are great, too.
You can creat your own schedule and do as much or little as you like

  • You could cook home made meals and advertise on your community page!

  • I recently started a side huddle of making gift boxes. I get everything delivered online and make them up and sell them on my local community pages. You can do this as often or as little as you like.

  • I have an online business that has allowed me to connect with new people (always a bonus with a little one) and earn some extra cash from home. Happy to provide more info if you would like more info.

  • Like everyone else here, I also signed up to do surveys

  • I worked my online skincare biz from my hospital bed after baby #3 arrived. I worked when baby slept and had that extra income coming in monthly. It was also a confidence boost and much needed adult brain time and socialisation. Start up was under$100

  • The only thing I can think of is starting your own small business like art or craft selling (not MLMs).

  • Imo the surveys are worth it if you stick with them over time. Ive redeemed 680 with Purkle since joining. Usually at times I can’t even afford food shopping its been a real life saver. I’ve found octopus surveys seem to pay a little higher though. I also make digital designs and sell them online on things like notebooks, phone cases, zip pouches, clothing etc through Redbubble that is my fave form of passive income.

  • Street Bees also pays a few dollars into your Paypal per survey. And Mistplay is legit if you like trialling phone games. You get points for the i tros mainly.

  • TellmeBaby Australia can earn you up to 300 in gift cards.

  • I do online surveys and sell clothing, and furniture or generally anything I don’t want anymore at home.

  • Ellen has some great suggestions. I think it depends on your interest, everyone does survey and it’s only $10 per house. If you enjoy baking you could bake and sell at the market. If you’re imaginative you could write a book and possibly publish it. Crafty, make cards/invites. Think of your hobby and make it a side job

  • Transcription jobs aren’t too bad, pay rate isn’t huge, but you can stop and start as you need.
