  • I had this problem too when I worked at the hospital.
You could try Cetaphil Pro Eczema Prone Skin Restoring Moisturiser.
However with persitant Dermatitis I would get a referral to see a dermatologist. Most likely the dermatologist would prescribe a topical OTC hydrocortisone cream which reduces irritation, itching and inflammation.

  • Every kid is different. I would check with the gp or a pharmacist to be sure

  • I found clarins hand cream (although pricey) works wonders for me.

  • My sister in law recommended a barrier cream to my daughter, whose hands are the same from work. She uses it at her work as a nurse and on her 6 year old as well. Not sure on brand as she hasn’t been to work for awhile (she only works as a nurse during school holidays)

  • You can also chat to the pharmacist as they give you good advice too.

  • I’ve recently been using Kiels Ultimate Strength Hand Salve on my hands and it’s been working a treat!

  • I had to see a dermatologist as my ecemza on my hands wasn’t clearing up. Hopefully your Childs hands won’t be that bad. It was suggested to avoid shower and skin products that have methylisothiazolinone and methlchloroisothiazolinone in them and also limonene and linalool (found in a lot of hand sanitisers). Moisturise after every bath/shower and use 1 – 3 times a day, use a good brand like Cerave, Cetaphil Pro, Lipikar Baume By La Roche Pose, Xeracalm by Avene, QV cream, Dermeeze moisturiser range.

  • Something like epaderm and barrier cream always works for me

  • Maybe seek professional advice too.

  • Did u try using only coconut oil and leave it like a mask for an hour?

  • My skin is the same and I find I need to apply hand cream throughout the day to maintain moisture. Aveeno dermexa is a good occlusive cream to use for kids. When it’s quite bad I also get some Dermaid cream from over the counter at the chemist.

  • My 8 yo gets patches from moisture and soaps trapped under her watch. We usually apply the paw paw ointment from Aldi morning and night. If it’s really bad, add cotton gloves at night. My mother used to apply sorbelene to my dry, itchy skin as a kid and I still do this. The thick cocoa butter creams are really good and hydrating too. I used them on dry skin and my itchy stretch marks while pregnant. Hope your little one gets some relief soon!

  • Whichever cream you use, I suggest you try a really thick layer at bedtime, and cotton gloves to cover it. It can give it a chance to really soak in.

  • I do not allow my kids to use sanitizer and I’ve told the school. After the doctor said it burned their skin and the red glowing hands. I covered my kids hands in sudocreme at night. Helps the redness and itchyness and flaky skin.

  • Moo Goo and Vitamin E Cream.
It is always advisable and sensible to patch test any products.

  • The body shop hemp hand protector works wonders

  • Moo Goo is superb. I noticed a difference within days of using

  • a really good barrier cream is worth the initial outlay. I also suffer due to sanitizers and hand soaps. I don’t change my products once I find one that works and always carry my own.

  • When mine was bad I lathered them in sorbelene before going to bed each night and put cotton gloves on. You can get the gloves at the chemist or cheap shops.

  • I’ve got the worst hands I’ve had in a long time after this cold snap. Of course, steroid creams do the job, until you don’t use them. I have found that Redwin’s sorbolene is doing wonders. If you want a sealer, and can put it on overnight, try a bit of Marcalan nipple cream. It locks it in but is very greasy.
