Hello!

After three pregnancies, my hair is now in the worst condition it has ever been. It has gone from being relatively straight to being quite curly and very dry/damaged from the mid lengths to the ends. I have never used hair products before as I don’t like the idea of having a wet look or ‘crunchy’ curls. But I fear I no longer have any choice as it is boofy if I allow it to dry naturally and I don’t want to add further damage through heat styling. Any suggestions on products to help tame and repair my hormone-destroyed locks?

  • A tip a hairdresser gave me decades ago was to put some hand cream on hands and then lightly just smooth it through your hair to control dryness and unruly hair.

  • You could try hair masques to help recondition your hair.

  • L’Oreal has a product called Extraordinary Oil and it really is extraordinary for taming frizz with just a couple of drops of the oil. It is costly (around $20 for 100mls) but it lasts a very long time.

  • Use a treatment twice a fortnight and apply a serum to hair when damp!

  • get a deep condition every week, once a week. Get a good haircut which will help to minimise further damage due to the weaker stuff breaking off. You can get a keratin treatment which will help to strengthen it.

  • I used a shampoo and conditioner made by Klorane Laboraties (I think it is made in France) Many of them aren’t made in Australia any more. None of the others I tried were successful. It is organic and therefore doesn’t have nasty chemicals which can irritate your scalp. I got mine from the Chemist Warehouse. Some of the other pharmacies don’t sell it unless they buy in stock and have it on promotion. How long is your hair? Shortish hair is easier to get condition into quickly as the shampoo etc. doesn’t have as much to clean and moisturiser. Make sure you rinse your hair especially your scalp properly. Otherwise you may get a condition similar to cradle cap on your scalp. It won’t flake off like dandruff does. You are best to use an organic shampoo even if you buy it from a pharmacy.
