Hello!

How can you stop a 9 week old  from wetting each night? My 9 week old is always soaking wet in the morning I feed him at 3am and his nappy is almost dry but at 7am the front of his nappy is full and this clothes, wrap and bassinet sheets are soaked but the back of his nappy is dry :S I always make sure his willy is pointing down in the nappy, and the nappy is higher then the front then back. He uses hugggies nappies infant size. What else can I do?

  • eventhough you say hr’d slmst dry when you feed him at 3am, my first step would be to give him a new nappy at that time and see how it goes then

  • I use cloth nappies on my little one and find that a good quality, boosted night nappy works well. No leaks.

  • When my kids were babies, I used cloth nappies. Overnight ones were a folded nappy with an extra folded nappy lining that, then I put on a pair of fluffies with a pair do plastic pant to top it all off. It didn’t work, but helped. Maybe try a bigger size nappy for overnight, that would be more absorbent

  • Boys are meant to wet the front of the nappy. Being wet is a good thing, means he’s getting enough to drink. Maybe you could slip extra padding down the front if his nappy for overnight

  • Perhaps you could just put an extra pad down the front of his nappy for nighttime. I don’t think you can stop him wetting his nappy at nine weeks old. Also, a waterproof mattress protector will help keep the mattress dry at least. You can even double up on these, and have two layers on the cot; first waterproof mattress protector, then fitted sheet, then second waterproof mattress protector, then second fitted sheet. Then, if the bed is wet at night, just take off the top sheet and protector, leaving the backup in place.

  • I would change the nappy at every feed I haven’t had a boy but what you are doing is what I hear is the trick! Good luck.

  • Have you tried going up a nappy size?

  • Wow, it sounds like you’re doing all the right things. I’d definitely change the nappy at the 3am feed. make sure the little elastic leg holes are pulled out and not still tucked in. good luck.

  • He’s only 9 weeks old! Not much you can do at that stage! Change his nappy every time you give him a feed so that he’s starting from ‘scratch’ each feeding time. Other than changing nappy brands or ‘double bagging’, there’s not much you can do.

  • Change nappy bands? Although I do remember my son being a little more wet than my daughter is, a nightly change may be needed.

  • my son was the same we had to get up in the middle of the night and change him every night

  • The same used to happen even with me when my daughter was that age and it used to drive me mental. As if we don’t have enough to do that we need to clean cot bedding as well.
I tried several brands before I found one that worked and for me it was actually the Woolworths home brand ones. Can you believe that!!? Plastic pilchers also worked.

  • How is he going now?

  • I would try a different brand, or you could try a cloth night nappy it may help.

  • did anything end up helping?

  • What did you find helped?

  • At least you don’t need to worry about him being hydrated!

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Try either a bigger size or maybe different brand and see what happens after that

  • I suggest trying a different brand of nappies.
