Hello!

A question, my husband took my 20 mth old to McDonalds as a treat and my son was playing in the playground, and another child pushed my son not once but three times, the mother of the other child watched as it happened. My husband knelt down and explained it wasn’t nice to push another child. The child’s mother got upset at my husband saying he shouldn’t discipline her kid and pushing another child is part of playing. Husband and my son came home upset. What would other parents do in a situation like this?

  • Yes, your husband did the right thing. I would do the same.

  • I probably would have gone to the mother and asked her to talk to her child and if she didn’t then I would explain to the child.

  • Wow! There’s something not right about that other mum! Well done to your husband for handling the situation well. I would like to think I would do what he did

  • well that mother should’ve dealt with her child

  • I would have done the same thing and probably had something to say to the mother as well. It’s not okay to push other people around!

  • My hubby & I would’ve done the same thing. That mother is going to have a lot to deal with if she does nothing about it.

  • I would tell the child it’s not nice to push people and tell the mother she should watch her child because his upsetting your son.

  • I think your husband behaved perfectly, it’s outrageous for the other mother to expect your husband to just stand there and watch his son get pushed over repeatedly. I agree it is part of play, but part of learning about boundaries, it was her place to say something to her child so he learns appropriate play.

  • your husband was correct in his approach… just the mother of the other child being stupid …

  • your hubby did the right think …….

  • what did you end up doing

  • there are some good comments here

  • kids do this just walk away …

  • My partner would also have done the same. Wouldn’t worry about it.

  • For what it’s worth, I would have done what your husband did…

  • I can’t believe some people

  • I am worried that my daughter, who is big for her age and a bit of a rough nut, will be a bully. I feel it is my responsibility to teach her that it is not acceptable play to slap, hit, push or kick any other children. Pushing is not part of play!

  • that is so horrible…what a shocking mother!

  • Definitely Bullying – The mother obviously needs some lessons in that area. Your husband did the right thing and did it as nice as possible.

  • That is absolutely shocking, since when was bullying part of play?
