Hello!

I’ve had one for a good couple of months, and my period is all over the place, anyone willing to share if they had the same?

  • I don’t have the implant but everyone I’ve known who has had it has this issue. They can’t control the amount of hormone being released and they all eventually have them removed, which can be really painful. Unfortunately anything that controls your period will eventually cause issues with your period. That’s why I wouldn’t ever get one.

  • My sister in law did and had to go back to the OBGYN a couple of times

  • I haven’t used an implant, but multiple friends have, and none have ever reported this problem. Maybe talk to your GP.

  • I’ve heard that it can take your body some months to adjust. But if the bleeding persists or increases in volume etc, definitely seek medical advice from your doctor.

  • I had a implant years ago and kept bleeding so I had it removed. My body absolutely hates all forms of contraception.

  • I’ve heard it can take some time to adjust, but maybe ask your gp just in case?

  • My daughter had one for a while a few years back and had nothing but problems with it. I guess it’s all about finding what works for you

  • My advice would be to go to a GP that has a special interest in women’s health to discuss. Forums are great for some advice but for something like this your GP is the best source of knowledge

  • go to your GP and get an advise. they will guide you to the best

  • Anything new to your system can take awhile to settle. The few woman I know who had them all got them taken out for various reasons that it wasn’t for them. Your GP is the best one to advise you on any issues with it. I hope things settle for you

  • It can be quite common, it depends how you are feeling about it. Can take awhile to regulate but you can get it out if it is causing you stress too.

  • Friends of mine have experienced this with the implant. Some have chosen to take it out and pick another option, some still prefer the ease of not having to do anything daily. If you’re concerned a GP will be able to help.

  • Definitely ask the doctor, it might not be for you.

  • I would go and talk to your gp if you are not happy with it.

  • It’s quite a common side effect indeed.
The most common side effect is irregular bleeding (aka spotting), especially in the first 6-12 months. But most people on the implant get lighter periods, or their periods stop altogether while they have the implant. Other possible side effects that aren’t as common include headaches, breast pain, and nausea.
By any concerns I would head to the doctor

  • No experience with this and if concerned maybe seek support from GP.

  • Yes, it is a common side effect. 1/5 get period lots, 1/5 get it never. Hormonal stuff is horrible.

  • I took mine out as I felt the side effects weren’t worth it for me.
