Hello!

I’ve been trying to look at taking the kids on a cruise this year (age 9 and 11) the choices are overwhelming. What was the most fun cruise liner you have been on? We like activities and pools. I don’t drink so don’t really care about drinks packages. etc. I just honestly want a holiday that FEELS like a holiday because I don’t have to cook or organise activities lol.

  • Look for a ship with a kids’ program: Ensure the cruise offers a structured kids’ club or kids’ program so your children can engage in fun, supervised activities while you relax.
Explore the pool deck early: The pool areas can get crowded, especially during sea days, so it’s best to hit the pools early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid crowds.
Plan ahead for excursions: Some cruises offer family-friendly excursions that allow you to explore ports of call in a way that’s fun for kids (like beach days, theme parks, or cultural tours).

  • Yes dont do it seriously Cruises are full of people that love to party and drink and dont forget the spread of Covid and Gastro

  • I’ve often thought I’d enjoy a cruise. I’m really put off by so many people in such a small space for such a length of time and the risks of catching sonething

  • I’ve been on a Royal Caribbean cruise and loved it. We did Italy and it was fantastic with lots to see and do and not a lot of at sea days. Many of my friends have done the South Pacific islands cruise and have said it was great with kids.

  • I’ve just finished listening to Christian Hull’s podcast on the World Cruise. That may enlighten you a little too :)

  • I have done both p&o and carnival.
P&O is my favourite of the two. A younger crowd, lots of entertainment for both adults & children. Kids club is great too!

  • I’ve never been on a cruise with or without a child. Wish you luck with others that have had that experience

  • Traveling with a 7-month-old is possible and enjoyable with proper planning. I get my baby used to short trips before the big one and make them fun. I also visit friends and relatives for breaks instead of public places.

  • With kids that age any would be good as they are young enough for kids club. If you want a ship with rides/slides ect. Prob carnival or disneysea

  • Cruise holidays are simply the best. Reading and subscribing to cruiseliners etc will have you immensely. Your kids will have a awesome time.

  • I love the tip below about a balcony room and this would be a must if we cruise.

  • You certainly got a great lot of replies of interest. Personally, I can’t imagine going on a cruise, ever. It’s just not my cup of tea.

  • Get a balcony room if possible as they don’t feel as closed in. Make sure there is a good kids club. Have activities prepared for down times. Take a first aid kit. Have an amazing time !

  • I’ve no expereience myself but my friend swears by Carnival and P&O cruises (she’s a real addict and goes sveral times a year).

  • I cannot help with suggestions but loving the answers and suggestions below form this community. Also; looking at a possible cruise at some point.

  • Ex travel agent here, for kids P&O is great value and has so much entertainment. Great kids club and fun adult activities and day excursions in each stop, usually at an extra cost. Carnival line is the next tier up. Different itineraries will have different vessels, so look up what ship you’d prefer (some are newer with more features like better slides). So many food options on board both, like a floating food court you have free reign to. drinks packages are what can be exxy, this includes soft drinks packages.
If room quality is important to you, go for a balcony room. It can also help with any sea sickness to be midship with larger windows and fresh air in the room.
I had so many repeat cruisers who loved both lines, just depends on your budget and desired cruise destination.

  • I have heard that a bit of planning around on-board activities before you board really helps – know what you and your kids are interested in before you board.

  • We have done carnival and p&o with kids from 2 to 16 and I would definitely suggest p&o with kids. I have a friend who goes annually on royal cab with their kid and it seems great. Cruise holidays are the best with kids.

  • The Carnival Cruises I have been on had lots of fun for kids.

  • I’m following this one. It’s a bit overwhelming with all the offers around.
