Hello!

Do any mums have any recipes that are suitable for diabetics? Ones that don’t require stevia or other powdered sugar substitute? Suggestions for main meals or treats would be great!

  • There are plenty of recipes on Diabetes Australia – Victoria. To eat healthy as a person with diabetes means to eat generally healthy. low in fats, salt and sugar like we should all be eating. So you can use other healthy websites and books as well.

  • Thanks for asking this question; following answers.

  • I would try some cooking books from the library that specialise in diabetic friendly meals.

  • When my mum was diagnosed the nurse told her to attend a few classes that were held by nurses. They handed out some meal plans so maybe ask the nurses at your local medical centre.

  • For an easy, nutritious and tasty snack, try this dip, with vegetable pieces.

Fruit kebabs are also nice as a sweet treat, and you can serve them with some pureed berries for dipping.

  • Go to your newsagents a buy the cook books Simply Too Good To Be True. The author had diabetes and that’s why she wrote these book. There are 7 in totally and I’ve cooked heaps from each book and everything has been delicious :)

  • My dad has been diagnosed also so ill keep an eye out

  • Im going to be staying with a friend who has diabeties and i will be cooking most nights so i shall be checking this thread for meal ideas also.

  • My dad has type 2. My mum will have a few treat and dinner ideas. Give Me a day and i will post you some ideas. Also. Cinnamon is great for diabetics. It helps the body regulate it self. Will try get more ideas for you.

  • Are you looking for desserts specifically? for diabetes, you really want low GI so I’ll choose the carbs wisely. Not just about added sugar. As long as you are aiming for wholegrains with plenty of good protein and fats, you are pretty much on a Low GI trail :) SO really look for recipes that uses ingredients like these: wholemeal, bran, wholegrain, basmati, coconut oil, etc. Avoid all dried fruits even if they have no added sugar.

  • Diabetes Australia and the CSIRO have great recipe books. You should also be able to find recipes online on their website. “Blood Sugar” by Michael Moore is also a really good book with great recipes.

  • I would be doing some research on google to find this, or the diabetic society should be able to help
