Hello!

I’m trying to find some new yummy easy quick dinner meals. I have a 6 yr old boy, who’s taste buds change every week and 2 yr old twins- one eats almost everything and the other is very fussy. I can’t eat spices and my hubby doesn’t eat fish. Any suggestions would be wonderfully helpful.

  • Cool! Very interesting reading the comments on this!

  • Anything I can throw in a slow cooker – lots of veges and some meat. yum yum yum

  • Mince dishes would be good as many recipes/dishes can be made with mince. Look up mince recipes.

  • Stir fry’s are always good and lots of vegies can be added for a healthy diet.

  • Tuna or chicken mornay with pureed sautéed leek and creamed corn. Meat and veg pies (I puree up any steamed vegetables, fry off beef cubes, add a little carob sauce and pop in a pie. Sausage rolls with pureed pear and leek, mashed potato and grated zucchini.

  • I know you said that your husband doesn’t eat fish, but you could try this recipe, and substitute some cooked and shredded chicken for the tuna. These pasties are easy, tasty and great hot or cold. Leave the cayenne pepper out.

You could also try Apple and Cheese Tortillas, which are simple and the kids can help to make them. With these, sometimes they’re called Quesadillas, and you can make them with almost any combination of fillings. Even little hands can hold a slice of these, and feed themselves.

  • homemade sausage rolls (grate vegies like carrot, zucchini, onion etc), macaroni cheese, shepards pie, jaffals/toasted sandwiches (choose your own fillings cheese, ham, tomato, baked beans, anything really!), fried rice with bacon, peas, corn etc, soups – pumpkin, potato & bacon (my kids like chicken and corn) and mini quiches. Hope this helps :)

  • maybe focus on preparing for the 6 months old while the 2 year old just eat whatever u n ur hubby eats

  • there are some good comments here

  • I noticed in the newsagent a book for childrens cooking. I dont think it was very dear, but try that and see if the eldest would like to cook and then everything cooked should get eaten… The library often has books out very cheap where I live, or perhaps you are a member and can find something to take home and use if you cant afford to buy yet…

  • Sushi is always a hit in our house, recently I have been making Taco’s but putting the ingredients in little bowels and letting my 5 and 3 year olds make their own up, they love it!
Nachos is another one to let them construct their own
I think giving them them appearance of being able to choose their own food is working great so maybe look for meals like that

  • Potato bake, veggie bake, Shepard s pie, casseroles, lasagna

  • Get a pressure cooker, saves so much time. Slow cooker is good but you need to cook all day. Cook rice in the microwve, 10-12 mins, Pasta dishes, onion, garlic celery, bacon or ham, add some finely sliced cauli or broccoli, carrot, leaks, mushroom and then a tin of light carnation milk,..add other veg or pre cooked chicken, add cheese if you want . Pour over linguini, or other pasta.
There are great one pot cook books, have a look at one. Check out Taste.com too.

  • What about things like bacon and egg pie?
    Macaroni cheese
    Pasta bakes

  • Crumbed fish and home made chips, spaghetti, nachos (home made to suite tastes) Home made chicken nuggets .

  • a lot of slow cooked beef meal would be good for the whole family, we also have taco and spag bolognaise as well as a lot of chicken dishes

  • we make home made pizzas and the kids can put their own toppings on. you have cut up toppings like ham, pineapple, salami, veggies, cheese tomatoes, herbs etc and let them create what they want. the 2 year olds you will have to help with theirs but the 6 year old can do it by them selves.

  • Make your own pizza, pita pockets or buritos. they are fun and you can put different things in it according to your liking.

  • My 5yo loves snack sized anything! Baby cucumbers and cherry tomatoes go well. Also try dipping things, like a banana eaten from the peel after dipping the end in a plate sprinkled with Milo, he can dunk and dip as often as he likes! Or try dipping slices of firm fruit in yoghurt and then muesli or other crumbly cereal (not flakes as they soften too fast). Lastly my personal fave is good old fashioned toasties – filled with a mix of whatever he fancies, sweet or savoury – try pizza toppings or tuna, cheese and carrot with a dash of sweet chilli sauce.

  • Check out the RECIPE section on MoMs… you’ll be amazed the recipes on there!
