Hello!

Or any other volunteer organisations? How did you get in to these organisations?

  • No I’m not part of the ses or other organisations. If you’re looking to help out I suggest calling the ses to find out further information.

  • Now the kids are older I’ve started helping with Meals on Wheels, doing driving and delivery on a couple of rounds each week. I had to get police checks etc. and have vaccinations for covid and read some training materials. It was simple. I prefer this ‘scheduled volunteering’ compared to ses or fire service. The emergency calls are so random and still make family life (with teenagers) hard. I can plan around Meals on Wheels better and it’s only a couple of hours, so a bit better than one charity shop I also looked into for volunteering (they wanted more hours and longer days which also didn’t suit).

  • I used to be a member of the SES. You just find out who runs them or when they have meetings and just rock up. There is some paperwork to do, but it’s minimal

  • What a great thing to do – good luck with it. Besides what the other ladies have said, I would suggest setting yourself up with a fitness routine – one would imagine that if your helping to fight bush fires, or evacuating people from floods etc – you would need a lot of stamina and energy to get through those sorts of events and go for long periods of time without a break – getting a good routine to maintain your fitness I am sure would be a great advantage in being a volunteer – let us know how it goes :)

  • I don’t but my sister in law does and really enjoys it. Each state has their own with different regions so if you go to the website for your state, you should find the forms to join. It’s something I hope to do one day when my children are older.

  • Thanks for the good answer with helpful tips. :)

  • I’m not but you need to contact your local branch and find out what days they are there for you to apply. In the case of the cfa you could go to the station on a sunday morning or attend a monthly meeting. They will have you complete a police check when you join.
