Hello!

Do I quit sugar? I have a few friends who are trying the no sugar thing. I can see the benefits of less treats and not adding sugar to everything – but do you really feel a difference from cutting out sugar completely? Has anyone tried this and believe it’s worthwhile? What can and can’t you now have?

  • I love the idea of quitting added sugars ( not fruit etc) but it’s not easy. Sugar is un soooo many thing’s.

  • I’ve tried to quit sugar before but I end up craving it more. The best option is to have everything in moderation

  • Yes I’ve quit sugar.
For my kids I use raw honey, good quality maple syrup, raw coconut palm syrup or yacon syrup, personally I’m happy without any sweetener.

  • I quit most of it. But I still occasionally indulge. What I did notice is if I binged on sweet treats, I ended up craving them more. Whereas if I just avoid them altogether, it’s not so much of an issue

  • Its a good idea u can use suger substitutes which have 0 chalories

  • Yes I avoid sugar, only sugar I have is what is natural in fruit and honey. The more sugar you eat the more you want, once you give it up you end up finding out things are too sweet for you. And do not replace with rice syrup which will just make you crave more because it is highly processed and unsatisfying. I have also tried maple syrup which I found to leave me craving more. Stevia is okay but got sick of the taste, so now I have settled on honey because it is nutritious, natural and satisfying, of course I minimize how much I have.

  • maybe worth a try to see if it is sustainable long term.

  • So many peope are doing this but for me l don’t really have that much sugar to give up!

  • There is no chance I would have the willpower for this!

  • Cool topic! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • I have tried to I Quit Sugar thingy, it is so hard to eliminate sugar completely from your diet, it’s hidden in so many products on the shelf. So I do nearly as good by not adding processed sugar to anything. I read labels and buy the products that gave less than 10gms of sugar per 100gms of product. I haven’t lost any weight but I’m sleeping better and feeling better

  • I have a friend who has done the quit sugar 8 week program, she enjoyed and saw so many benefits that she’s signed up for another 8 weeks. She lost weight, saw an improvement in her skin, noticed her mind was clearer, she slept better and wasn’t as moody as usual. So the benefits seem great, however it is difficult to stick with, especially if you have a family to look after. I read labels and avoid anything that has more than 10gms of sugar per 100gms food (you will be surprised at what foods have added sugar and even more surprised to learn the amounts, I know I was). Basically, avoid processed and packaged foods, eat as natural as you can and I’m sure you will feel better for it

  • I cannot survive the day without some form of sugar :( good luck

  • Easier said than done! I use sugar substitutes like Xylitol and Stevia.

  • I once cut out fatty foods, not sugar, but omg the feeling is great!

  • I’d like to cut down the amount of sugar in my diet, especially as I have hideous sugar-cravings in the evenings, which can ruin all the good healthy eating I’ve done during the day. I honestly don’t think that I could give up sugar completely though.

  • I have started to nearly completely cut out sugar. I only rarely have a treat here and there. Compared to sugar all day in everything its a huge difference. I honestly feel worse at the moment, but hoping to feel better in the loing run

  • Each experience will be different give it a go yourself, you have nothing to lose ( but the sugar)

  • It’s not healthy to cut out any one food group from your diet completely. Cutting out excess may help you life weight but don’t go for sugar alternatives either as they are not healthy.

  • I accidently had a coffee without sugar years ago. since then I haven’t had sugar in my coffee. It takes two weeks for your taste buds to renew themselves so persevere and you wont know any different
