Hello!

Hi I’m just wondering if I can ask the lovely mums out there if their 6/7yr olds are having nightmares? My almost 7yo boy is waking every night for the past 8weeks with “nightmares”. The thing is he’s not upset when he wakes. So now I’m not sure if he’s just wanting company or if it truly is nightmares. Any ideas on how to get him to sleep through again?? I’ve tried laying with him and just settling him and neither of those work? Do your kids have nightmares?

  • My daughter had which is weird as she is younger. That’s why I need to keep a light on

  • My daughter occasionally does but we are Christians so I encourage her to call upon Jesus when she is scared and he’ll take away her bad dream. Sometimes she needs me to help. It melts my heart.

  • My kids have all had nightmares occasionally since they were born. I think it’s normal..

  • my son went through this stage and yes it is just a stage. I would just give him a cuddle get him to tell me about the dream then resettle him in bed – lasted a couple of months but I have no problems with him now.

  • my son had nightmares when he was about 5/6yrs old. I found that asking him about the scary thing in his dream (usually monsters) and then going through his room checking for monsters (I found none) and then reassuring him that their where no monsters in his room and that I would chase away any monsters that tried to get him, usually resulted in him calming down and going back to sleep.

  • It is normal and I would talk to him about them and let him know that there are good dreams and bad dreams but none of them are real

  • Is he still having nightmares?

  • Must be so scary to have nightmares at that age :(

  • how is he going now?

  • How is he going at night now?

  • It is normal and I would talk to him about them and let him know that there are good dreams and bad dreams but none of them are real

  • I hope he has stopped having them

  • Make sure there have not been any changes in his life that could have had a negative impact and cause the nightmares.

  • My daughter use to have the night terrors but not now!

  • I could never figure out the difference!

  • My 3 year has the occasion night terror. My husband has tried talking to the ‘scary’ in his room, we have asked it to leave and go home, we have opened the window and tried to let it out, seemed hopeless. So one night when he bought up that the ‘scary’ was in his room my husband went in his room shut the door and banged on the door, cupboards and make a racket, came out and told our son his beat him up (my husband is not the kind of person that beats people, I promise) quoting Major Payne “If he’s still in there he aint happy”. Our son has not had one nightmare, night terror or complain about the scary in his room since.

  • I hope it gets better for him

  • How is he going ?

  • Monitor his watching of TV anything scary might cause the nightmares

  • My son suffers alot sometimes from nightmares, things he works thru now with a doc
