Hello!

I’m early pregnant and the heartburn is making me truly miserable! I can get it from drinking a little water :( I spoke to my GP and she said it’s best not to take medication in the 1st trimester but I can take Mylanta when desperate. I was wondering what others did/do to ease the burn?

  • Heartburn in pregnancy is horrible. I had it really bad and nothing worked for long – I went through a lot of gaviscon in the later months but I did find milk helped a little… and trying not to lie flat as that seemed to make it worse. Lots of pillows!!

  • I think it depends what your triggers are, I could not for example eat cucumber or sparkling water. for me a glass of milk helped and having a very plain diet.

  • Realise it’s an old post but if anyone else comes to it for help i recommend eating cucumber. Be sure to eat the seeds as well because they neutralize the acids.

  • Have you tried Sparkling Natural Spring Water??
I tried a couple of brands but settled on Coles brand as it has only a very small amount of salt compared to other brands. I found just one glass of that helps a lot.

  • check out the foods that will help and avoid certain foods like chocolate (sorry) tomatoes, coffee, spicy foods etc.

  • peppermint tea worked well for me – or maybe some other herbal teas

  • You poor thing, I suffered heartburn really bad too. My mother in law suggested bi carb of soda. Just a teaspoon in a quarter glass of water, stir and drink FAST because it tastes awful. A massive burp should ensue and heartburn should be gone. Dr told me it was ok too
