Hello!

What’s the etiquette on drinks that guests bring? Do you keep them or send them home with your friends if they are not used?

  • I ask the guests if they’d like me to open their bottle on the night or whether they prefer to drink what I already have and I go with whatever they want. If I don’t open their bottle I keep it for the next occasion.

  • I would store them and bring them out during the next gathering for people to drink.

  • No way would I give them back as it would send the message “i don’t need you gift”. You could invite your friend to come over another time to drink the bottle together if you like.

  • keep them

  • The etiquette is you KEEP them. Whatever people bring to a party stays at the party. But i have sent things home with family and friends. Up to you.

  • this is a hard one – I always open bottles people drink. the people that give me the irits are the ones that bring one bottle and drink three!!!

  • I would open the drinks and have them during the dinner/party, but if there are too many and some are left unopened I would ask the guests if they’d like to take them home. Most people do not take them back.

  • I guess it depends if you’re ta;ling about one stubby of generic beer, a couple of fancy bottles of expensive craft beer or half a bottle of spirits.

I try to ensure that all guests take their leftovers with them. It’s up to them if they want to leave them or not.

  • I guess id keep them, if I liked it of course

  • I like to offer back to guests ,but nobody likes to as its a treat for the meal offered.

  • I normally send them home with friends that bought them.

  • I always ask them if they are going to take it home, however if people intend to they usually grab it before they leave and are packing their stuff up.

  • I don’t expect mine back as I figure I’ve eaten and drunk the hostesses food and drink, however I do offer it back when someone brings it to my place (especially if it is something we probably won’t use) because for some families things are tight.

  • If the drinks were brought as host/hostess gifts then you keep them. If you asked guests to BYO drinks then remind them as they leave that they may have some left. Whether they then choose to take them is their decision.

  • I give a bottle of drink as a gift and do not expect to receive it back. It is a thank you for a dinner invitation and meal. I do offer for people to take their drinks; but people don’t.

  • I think it’s entirely dependant on the people/setting. I always remind people about any unconsumed drinks & most just leave it. If someone bought over an expensive bottle of spirit Id leave it aside for them but if it’s just a cheap bottle of wine for everyone to share then it’s fair game :-)

  • For me it depends entirely on who the guest is. Some of my friends it’s just natural you leave it behind as what goes around comes around. On the other hand if it is someone likely to expect their drinks to bd still in our fridge a month later if they returned we would politely suggest to take their drinks with them as what’s left behind won’t there still next time!

  • yeah i would leave the drinks there with the mindset of sharing lol but that is me. just remind them before they leave, that they have drinks in the fridge and they will decide if they want them etc (if they have’nt drunk them already)

  • Oh I’m so glad you asked this question! I have often wondered the same thing so its great to see everyone’s responses.

  • Depends on the group of people. When I bring drinks I’ll generally leave them unless asked to take them
