We use a body wash with goats milk which is great. I have also heard MooGoo products are wonderful though I am yet to try them.

Charcoal body wash was a godsend to us and so wash goats milk body wash. Not the soaps though, even eczema soap is harsh and dries the skin. Bio oil is also great to getting it to heal and not leave marks.

Thanks so much everyone for your advice! I will take it in turns trying each product as it seems to be that what works for one doesn’t work for another. So far I do know that moogoo doesn’t seem to help, and qv keeps it under control but still not great. I am suspicious of a food intolerance, I’ll keep investigating that, and I’ve stopped the steroid cream, his clothes get washed in a sensitive washing liquid with an extra rinse cycle, we keep his baths warm not hot and I try to dry off his dribble as much as possible too. Definitely going to give the oatmeal a go it seems to be a very popular suggestion from some other people I know too! His hand and face are the worst due to dribble and chewing on his fingers but he also gets it bad on the back of his legs and the sides of his forearms. Which now that I think about it are the two other places that food gets(from sitting on his food in the highchair and his forearms rubbing in it on the tray). It’s such a tricky thing to combat! Poor little guy I feel very sorry for him 🙁

Hi Mum of 1, I am a bit concerned about it being food related. I’ve seen two Drs about it who both brushed it off saying it’s just exzema but honestly I really feel it might be good as much as I really don’t want it to be. The hand he eats with is much much worse than the other, and I THINK through process of elimination dairy seems to be effecting it, I noticed he also got bad nappy rash the evening after he had yoghurt for breakfast. I’m thinking of doing a food diary with photos and getting a third opinion. Thankyou for your comment. He has formula which is cows milk based (bellamys) so I’m not sure exactly how to really tell if it’s dairy when he is constantly exposed to his formula.

I love the brand “moogoo” they are natural and they work very well I have dermatitis (form of exczma) my scalp and their shampoo cleared my head right up and the itching stopped, they also have product for kids. You should have a look on there website

I forgot to add on my previous comment that Soda bicarbona combined with lemon works well for skin, expecialy for your face. You need only one TBS soda bicarbona, and juice of 1/2 a lemon. Wet skin coat with bicarbona, leave for 10 minutes until gets dry, then wash your face again with warm water, then dry with towel. When dry use cotton pads to smear lemon juice. When skin absorbs lemon, smear with cream or oil. The best is rose oil. This treatment deeply cleans your skin, your skin is mellow, tender and smooth.

I heard that EMUAID cream works well. Also Saint Johns Wort OIl, Aloa Vera. But the best treatment is if you can go and expose yourself to the sun and sea, because salt from sea, with the help from the sun works wery well. One more thing I heard and exist in my country (Croatia) is Naphtalene Preparation for Psoriasis. Just don’t know where you can buy all this.. Emuaid probably in health shop or chemist warehouse, or even online. The same is for Saint Johns Wort Oil and Aloa Vera.

Just by the location you mentioned I straight away think of ezcema related to food. Dairy, gluten but also acidic fruit and vegetable can trigger ezcema.
Besides all the great answers have you also considered changing dishwashing liquid/powder. I had a bad reaction with a new liquid I was trialling out. Especially around my mouth and my hands. It still leaves a trace on glasses, cus, mugs and cutlery

Egyptian Magic worked for my daughter. She had it on her face near her eyes and on her hands and the Egyptian magic cleared it up and its not been an issue since.

Definitely avoid the steroid creams – they make the situation worse, especially the longer you use them.
I’ve had eczema since I was a kid and it got so bad I was going crazy. I now have it under control and what has worked for me is Dr Wheatgrass cream, avoiding soaps and other irritants, and keeping the skin well moisturised.

Try to dress your baby in …..100% Cotton….We discovered both for babies and adults Purity Sensitvie Washing Liquid for the washing is fantastic. It is in a blue bottle with blue lid. They also have fabric conditioner with pink lid. It can be used in top or front loader washing machines. I find you may not nned to use as much as stated on the bottle. If you are using pre-wash products at all, make sure you rinse them thoroughly in water before putting them in the machine. Our baby had severe eczema but not on his body where the fabric came into contct with his skin. You need to be especially careful around his mouth. He may to try to lick it..or put his fingers in around his mouth, then in his mouth. Is he dribbling? I wonder if his saliva is aggravating it. If it was elsewhere on his body I would say it was your water supply. No I’m not joking!! I know a boy who as a toddler his eczema became very red, inflamed and sore (he suddenly didn’t want to walk and cried when he did. They had moved to SA from interstate with his Dad’s job. They tried all treatments including natural. They were advised to avoid washing/ bathing him too much. It improved just a little. They sponged him with cool boiled water and organic soap. They moved back interstate and his eczema started to improve within a fortnight. No more work transfers to SA.

I feel for you. As a mother I feel for you and an eczema sufferer myself. The absolute worst part is the steroid cream. It’s a viscous cycle, it heals the sores but does not prevent the eczema and it thins the skin out!! So the cause is still there but every time you/bub scratch the itch it breaks the skin worse and quicker than the time before!

My advice and I am about to do this myself as an adult and eczema sufferer of 30years. Take bub to a dermatologist and a natropath.
There is something causing this eczema be it my reason: sugar or fruit, dairy even down to the washing powder!

If you don’t find the cause it will never go away and all the topical solutions in the world will not fix it!

Prevention is better than cure in this case! My issue is I simply can’t resist the sugar and I know I will be far better off once I can!

Winter is worst as the skin dries out also be careful not to overheat as scratching can start from that too. Pinetarsol baths can sooth inflamed and itchy skin, oil based moisturisers work best, something that the skin can absorb such as coconut oil and one thing that I found recently that works for me is Bio Oil! It smooths and absorbs so well keeping my hands better moisturised than ever. Also Frank body scrub removed dead skin cells and promotes better circulation!

Goodluck, it’s horrid going through it and it’s just as bad feeling helpless watching your babies go through it. FIND THE CAUSE!!! Minimise the steroid cream where possible! I really feel for you

Exzema can have different causes. Sometimes Gp’s prescribe steroid cream without investigating the root of the problem. It might be helpful to go to a Naturopath to rule out any food allergy’s. I had a lot of exzema myself. I had to limit all water, soap and chemical substances in order for it to heal.

My daughter suffered severe eczema too, that didn’t respond to steroid creams and other treatments. Quite accidentally I discovered that when she consumed cane sugar in any form, the rash increased rapidly, when she didn’t the rash quickly disappeared. I was highly criticized for trying to limit her intake of sugar, but when she was an adult she went to a naturopath who confirmed she was actually allergic to cane sugar. Now that she avoids sugar altogether, she’s no longer bothered by eczema…

I’ve used Dermaveen cream and was on my kids. I also found oatmeal was really good – I put some in a stocking (really soft one) and used that to rub on them in the bath and it worked.

i put my son onto goat soap instead of regular soap, have also heard of an oatmeal type bath as well (my son has a very very mild case on his legs)
