  • Baked beans are veggies. Baked beans on corn chips with cheese (nachos) are also veggies.

  • After you’ve tried hiding them in dishes and involving him in preparing etc. you could try explaining how good they are for him (like you can add 10 years to your life and ward off many diseases by eating them). As he is an older child he may understand. Let him see you eating them and the problems that you can develop if you don’t eat them.

  • Cool! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • I hide a lot in pastas. Mine are now 6 and 7. They still fool around and whinge but know they have to eat them, I also use dessert as a bribe.

  • I grate things that I do not want the kid to know is in the meat dishes or get them to choose what veggies they are going to eat for dinner

  • there are some good comments here

  • You could try a small veggie patch or many just some veg dishes like frittatas, vegetable lasagnes, quiches, even chicko roll type homemade dishes!

  • Get him to grow some vegies, then eat them. Make a fun face with meat and vegies on his plate,

  • Get him to help prepare and cook them… Find pictures of his favorite people, Hero’s etc eating veggies (google would have some, it has everything) good luck

  • Whilst it is a short term solution to ‘hide’ veggies it doesn’t really address the issue of kids not wanting to eat them. We tried a lot of different veggies and also different ways of cooking veggies. I could get them to eat minted peas but not peas, cauliflower with cheese sauce but not without cheese sauce, corn on the cob but not corn kernels, carrots with honey but not without the honey, scalloped potatoes or roast potatoes but not boiled potatoes. Just keep trying different things…

  • I do hope some of the advice below has helped – will come in handy for when I have the grand kiddies for dinner

  • Get him involved in growing, choosing recipes and cooking them. In the mean time hide veggies in things like bolganaise sauce, burgers, meatloaf, lasange, sauces, etc (zucchini, mushrooms, etc work well)

  • Mcspenny’s ideas are awesome! i would do the same…some own proud gardening and cooking

  • The best way I found is to get them involved. Get a small vegie garden going and get him to grow his own vegies. He has to plant, water, look after and then pick his vegies. He will be very proud of what he has done. he should then want to eat them. then when you are at the shop you can show him the vegies like the ones he grew and he may eat them again. Also getting him involved in the cooking sometimes works too.

  • how did it end up going?

  • Did he always refuse or is this a new thing? Maybe involve him in the cooking process or do something fun with veggies like make carrot cake or corn fritters.

  • Some really useful advice here.

  • Have any suggestions below helped?

  • If you cook up stews, bolognaise, meat patties or meals where you can blend or pulp veges into your 7 year old wouldn’t know. The art of disguise is the method I used that worked on my kids.

  • Grow some in a veggie patch, or potted plants if u have less space, to get him interested in wherr vegies come from and how they grow. He can plant, water, and grow them himself, then eat the benefits!
