Hello!

3 weeks ago we had school sores (impetigo) come through our house and infect all three of us. I washed everything and was very vigilant with everything. We used creams, covered them up and were on antibiotics. It has now come back and I have it again!! Watching for anything on the kids now. How can I get rid of it for good?

  • Antibiotics can treat impetigo, but the condition can return, especially in young children. Children are especially prone to scratching and opening their scabs, putting them at a higher risk of re-infection. However, most kids recover with no complications after they receive treatment

  • That sounds awful. I think you should see your GP. They may be able to prescribe something to get rid of it, and have suggestions on dealing with this in the future. Good luck.

  • I’ve never had to deal with this (fortunately). It sounds like antibiotics is the answer.

  • You need to get antibiotics to clear it up properly.

  • Go back to your doctor & hopefully they will be able to give you something to treat it.
My niece came to visit a few years back & she has school sores, luckily none of us caught it but it was horrible to see her suffer & scream as we applied her creams.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

  • goodluck, I am not sure how to get rid of these

  • We got cream from the doctors which cleared it all up in our household.

  • Gee I’m so sorry. My son and I had it a couple of months ago, took antibiotics snd it cleared up. Could yo have picked it up again from somewhere else? I. E Childcare drop off

  • some very good tips from the mums here, goodluck with finding the best things for your little one

  • i hope you got something that works

  • there are some good comments here

  • there is cream at the chemist you can buy and cover the sores or they will spread ….

  • A bactroban script with repeats. I agree with the comment of wiping it inside the nose with a cotton bud for a few days as staph lives there. A pharmacist recently told me on the first sign you can also use a dab of peroxide (3% I think) on the affected area to help minimise the risk of total outbreak. My son has had this on and off since he was a toddler. Look up the royal children’s hospital website and type in staphylococcal eradication. It usually has the most up to date info on elimination and management.

  • I would also recommend informing the school.

  • Keep some Bactriban handy too, hit them quick when they are just begining and increase your fresh fruit and veg intake too

  • It’s an airborne disease so very hard to get rid of. I think you are doing everything right so just ride it out. Horrible I know!

  • When you use the cream I was told you had to keep using it a few days after it looks completely healed. Speak to the school as well because there may be an outbreak.

  • once one get it you all do. You can get cream from the chemist put the cream on cover every sore this is how it spreads and make sure no one at school has it or you will never get rid of it

  • Try to cover the sore with waterproof bandage or clothing. Dont share any towel, clothing or anything that has been in contact with skin. Keep washing hands regularly. Hope taht u will get well soon.

  • I can remember getting them as a child in my first year of school, lots of kids got them it was part of going to school. They went away with treatment and I never got them again. I have no idea what my mother did but it worked.
