Hello!

I need new towels and several I have are very shiny and are hard to use. I want something that will take the shiny feeling out and make them rougher

  • i use linen house ones. i find it is good one

  • As much as I love fabric softener, it really can hinder the absorbency of linen. I often go without it in a round of towels.

  • It just takes washing a few times and don’t use fabric softener.

  • Cotton Towels will give you a rougher feeling once you wash and dry them. They will become absorbent with frequent usage. If your towels feel very much crusty, here is an article that you can read. http://www.allcottonandlinen.com/blogs/news/how-to-make-crusty-towels-feel-new-again?_pos=1&_sid=6448f3ea4&_ss=r

  • Put two rubber dryer balls (old tennis balls work, too––just make sure they’re clean!) in the machine with the towels when drying them. This will help to fluff up the towels and they will then be more absorbent.

  • Don’t use any fabric softer :)

  • Put them in the dyer

  • Some towels are made of fibres which are not great at doing the job of a towel (to dry you). go for 100% cotton these won’t let you down.

  • I put through the machine with vinegar and they come out great

  • Once upon a time, a cycle in the washing machine got towels usable. Nowadays, it often takes a couple of washes and sometimes that’s still not enough

  • I think washing them separately without detergent and hanging outside to dry may help. I don’t know why they make towels like this – they just push the water around on your skin.

  • We always wash our towels a couple of times without any fabric softeners and air dry outside.

  • I think not to put the towels in a dryer makes them rough. Just air dry them.

  • Hanging towels outside on the line in the sunshine will also make them rougher. We do not use a clothes dryer for towels.

  • Mine seem to go rough quickly which we like, we do not use harsh cleaners.

  • Yes, you can add baking soda, or vinegar or both to a hot wash to really break down whatever treatment the towels have on them. This may make your towels feel rough, but you will be free of any lint and potential piling.

  • I’d try washing them with a cup of white vinegar in the machine.
