Hello!

I would love to chat to anyone who has had an elective c-section because they were too fearful about giving birth?

  • I agree with hopefullyheidi :)

  • Giving birth is a very scary time but its also the most rewarding process! Generally c-sections are only done for medical reasons. The recovery is also longer and more painful.
Our bodies are made for this and there are pain relief options avaliable aswell. Talk to your GP or midwife for advice :)

  • It’s ok to be scared. Talk to your contact person, like your midwife etc, they can be very understanding. Voice your fears/concerns, and see what they have to say. Ultimately it is your choice and your body.

  • Can you do that? Why would you want to do it? If you’re fit and healthy and there’s no foreseeable problems, natural birth is the way to go. There’s a much longer recovery time from a c section, you’re restricted with what you can do during recovery (including handling your baby!) Not to mention possible complications

  • Just think people have been doing this for a long time, and our bodies were made for this

  • yeah ultimately it is your body and your choice. personally i would try natural unless there is some medical reason. no-one will judge you for the choice that you make though but consider it very carefully because you don’t want to regret it. also if you have a c-sec, then you are more likely to need one next time that you have a baby and you might not have a choice then

  • It’s not necessarily fear. There’s complications to be had from natural birth as well as c-sections. It can be a weighted, thought out decision to have an elective c-section.

  • no i went the natural way. it’s not as bad because a c-sec puts you out of action for months after and it’s harder to care for bub

  • No, not me!!

  • I had a c section and a natural birth; my first was natural and the second a c section, I felt my recovery time a lot quicker with the natural birth; it took weeks to get over with a c section, we all get scared honey, its all in the breathing if you can have a natural birth then I would advise it. good luck

  • Yes, definitely bring it up. My sister in law had a c section for her second bub after complications in her first which left her fearful of it happening again. I think if you have a legitimate reason (someone close lost a bub or something), they will oblige.
It is only natural to be fearful. When it comes down to it, you kind of forget how big the baby is and how small the hole is.

  • Some hospitals wont do a c section unless its a emergency, however your midwife might offer councilors sessions to make you more comfortable. A natural birth is less daunting in my personal thoughts. I have a absolute fear of being cut open. All the best :)

  • I would like to know this too, I have a midwife appointment next week. I’ll see what I can find out. Good Luck.

  • try to speak to your midwife, see if you can go under a care of a particular midwife if you can, they are lovely and will be with you ever step of your journey. I have had 3 different births, an Induced natural, an Emergency C-sect and then an elective c-sect.
If this is your first OBs tend to not book in elective C-sect unless there is medical reason.

  • This hasn’t been an issue for me, but your obstetrician may be able to help – either by putting you in touch with other Mums or with a counsellor.
