My toddler has severe toddler diary. I started of with journaling everything she ate and drank and writing down the symptoms and talked with her paediatrician who did several tests and referred me to a Gastroenterologist.The gastroenterologist did more tests, which came out clear. However he reported back that she was still using diary and that it might be worth it to cut that out. So he didn’t do a specific test for that. At the moment I cut out diary totally and it has improved drastically. I still wonder if I should ask for a test.

Sounds like he might be. My daughter was diagnosed at 11 months. Definitely talk to your GP about it.

I don’t know how they check for lactose intolerance these days, but I had two children with this problem. Everything they ate/drank with lactose in it, they very quickly brought back up. They were fine while I breast fed them, but no formula agreed with them. My youngest did end up on a formula that the doctor had to order in every six months at the chemist [sorry can’t remember the name now, but it sure smelt like Horlicks]. Neither child could eat baby food as they have milk solids in them, so I always pureed their food myself. One of the worst things was good-meaning grandparents buying a treat ‘ice cream’ and no matter how often I told them there would be a problem if they gave this to my child, they always ended up with the ice cream and the contents of the child’s stomach all over them.
They must have tests for this these days, but if you child is as lactose intolerant as mine were, you will know it very quickly from their tummy’s behaviour.

You should definitely have your baby tested. Some have such severe reactions that your baby won’t be able to have anything at all that contains lactose for at least a few years. That includes a lot of baby and toddler promoted foods. Effects of lactose intolerance include vomitting which means no / only a minute amount of nutriment. Pains can be severe that hospital treatment is essential.

Sure, it can be wise to have him checked so you have it “proven”. They like such things proven by doctors once your child hit the stage of child-care / preschool / school.
