Hello!

I’m a mum of a one year old and I’m expecting baby number two in a few weeks, I’ve just been labeled an archaic 1950’s house wife. I work from home and I chose to do this so I can be at home with my kids. Has anyone else come accross this stereotype?

  • There is no such thing in this day and age, as you said, you are working from home, looking after a child, expecting another, I really don’t know what people expect any more. If you are happy with your lot, don’t be upset by someone else’s ignorance.

  • Also, in addition to my other comment, if you are unable to ignore the comments? Maybe ask the person why they have given you this label? They may have think about it?

  • I’m sorry to hear that’s been said to you. I haven’t worked in paid employment in over 4 years and have 2 busy toddlers. I also get odd looks and questions. I think it’s great you’re able to work from home while raising littlies. Keep doing a good job and always do what you feel is right for you family, regardless of others opinions.

  • Never been labelled and quite frankly would not care! Their history may be deficit as the 1950’s stereotype of a wife stayed at home and did not work out of home or at home in a job. Do what works for you and ignore comments — does not matter.

  • I got labelled a lesbian, for having a gay friend; if people are labeling you there the ones with the problem.
My children are 13 months apart bring a house wife I’d awesome.

  • I think that person may be jealous

  • I wouldn’t pay any attention to the person who has said this!

  • If you were a 1950’s housewife you wouldnt be working at all! Stereotypes shit me! Good on you for being at home with your kids! Personally im not a stay at home mum material and after 5 months off im itching to get bck to work!

  • Sheesh, leave whoever said that behind! I wonder what this person would expect you to do to not be a “1950s housewife”. Just concentrate on enjoying your 1 year old and your new to be bubba!
PS: if you have (almost) 2 children under 18 months and you’re working from home I believe that is called a Supermum.

  • No, I haven’t been labelled, however I usually don’t worry about what others think or say. So long as I’m happy, I tend to tune the negativity out.
