Hello!

I’ve had the worst heartburn during my pregnancy, it’s literally an every day occurrence I cannot escape…Any tips other then those horrible heartburn lozenges & milk?

  • I hear Mylanta is good but double check with your doctor or pharmacist.

  • I find apples help – eating apples, avoiding spicy food, drinking room temp water, no tea, no coffee, no onion, no garlic, regular small meals, avoiding juice too… the plainer the diet the better (unfortunately) oh and avoiding deep fried or oily foods

  • I hope that it got better for you.

  • I had to find what I couldn’t eat but for me the biggest thing was I could not eat and drink at the same time. Needed 20min between drinking and or eating.

  • Try raising your head by using an extra pillow (at a slope) or put something under the head of your bed – if it has legs – but “your other half” may not appreciate that. If you have a rocker (rock your self in that for awhile) or a recliner try tilting the back and relaxing in that. I have slept in mine a few times.

  • I found standing up and walking around helped. For me it was worse sitting. Milk was the only other thing (chocolate milk strangely enough – I was addicted to it during my last pregnancy :/ )

  • Fruit tingles. Work quickly, taste great and something you can get everywhere. Goodluck, heart burns horrible.

  • fruit tingles. One of my friends says it was the only thing that she got relief from.

  • Avoid all acidic foods and eat alkaline ones. Pressure on stomach during pregnancy is causing acid to rise. If you Google the term ” ph food chart” there is some great lists of food to avoid. Milk is highly acidic. Almond milk is better. There is a great chart on unleash the power within.com.au. good luck

  • Natural popcorn worked for me.

  • I would try finding what foods actually cause it. I found certain things set me off but eating opposite foods were helpful and even settling. I found most fruit (not citrus) to be good to eat. Milk coffee also helped settle it for me too.

  • I found that eating an apple after every meal really helped with the heart burn. The acid in the apple neutralises the acid in your stomach.

  • Sitting up with lots of pillows helped; stopped the acid from ‘coming up’.

  • Can truly sympathise with you. I found small meals eaten more often helped me. If you are suffering in bed in the night refrain from eating at least two hours before retiring and elevate the top end of the bed, this definitely worked for me. Also eating bland food can also assist. Good luck, all worth it after the birth of bubby.

  • sit up for an hour after eating

  • Try to eat small portions of food but regularly throughout the day so that your acid & alkaline levels are kept in balance. I would make my last snack at 6pm then finish the evening with a glass of rice milk. It seemed to work.

  • Have to agree with the fruit tingle method..works a treat…sure hope your feeling better soon xx

  • eat some yoghurt or ice cream…full cream is best.

  • Wow, I would never have thought to try Fruit Tingles but being a heartburn and reflux sufferer for years, you name it and I have tried it. I resorted to medication (that is safe during pregnancy) from my GP which was pariet. It did help but the heartburn just came everyday. I would only have a bite of food and wait to see if I had a reaction before eating another. I had a tasting plate in the fridge all day. I had to stay away from anything acidic like tomatoes, cafiene, spicy stuff and citrus fruit, even bread and pastry. I basically lived on salad and melon fruits at the end of my pregnancy. I think the reason it gets worse toward the end is that there is little room left as baby gets bigger and your stomach just cant cope.
I still suffer and the quickest thing to work these days is gaviscon (aniseed ones is more palatable I think) and quickeze chewy tabs but I would have to have a couple of them before the pain goes away.

  • I found that a piece of fresh lettuce would help ease my heartburn when I was pregnant and now.
